The Official Tomb Raider (2013) Thread

Post by petrivanzyl »

So I just loaded up the game for the first time after the compulsory 1.8GB steam update.

And WOW!!!!

Graphics are stunning and game play seems to be really cool.

But what is up with the obsessions of most games with bows and arrows and hunting these days?

Anyway this has the makings of game of the year!

Too many games coming out too quick. I've got the game but I haven't played far yet. The game keeps crashing due to driver errors or something that is wrong with the nvidia drivers.

Played it this weekend.

Absolutely gorgeous at max details (incl. TressFX) thanks to my new gfx card. :P

Gameplay is excellent, story is interesting and a fair length. Completing all the challenges, collecting everything will keep you busy. I finished the game at 90% complete.

IMO definitely game of the year material.

Still no driver fix. Maybe I should go buy a AMD card then switch between the 2 when I play games.

Oh just read that going back to 310.xx fixes the crash bugs. So now I am running around and getting shot at by everyone.

Ok so after I downloaded the old drivers and got tomb raider working nvidia released the latest beta drivers that claims to increase performance in Tomb Raider by 60%.

So here we go.

*edit* just had my first crash after installing the new beta drivers. There is a good speed gain but stability is an issue.

Don't know what you disabled because my performance is all over the place on the ultimate setting.

What can I say so far?

If it was Tomb Raider vs Uncharted then TR wins with not overwhelming you with enemies. There aren't any endless waves of mobs so far and a gunfight usually ends with 8-12 enemies max while the minor skirmishes ends up with 3-4.

The open world aspect feels confusing yet well done. You will be meeting the same campsites on the island over and over.

The shortfall however is the story mixed with gameplay. The story wants to tell a tale of a timid Lara Croft becoming a badass while the gameplay turns her into a badass much more quickly and often at the expense of the points of interest.

The game clocks me at 50% completed so far so take it whichever way you wish.

Lastly I don't know whats gamings current obsessions with bow and arrows.

Ok finally finished the game.

I would recommend this game on a special definitely. New? Not sure but compared to uncharted I might say go out and get it.
