I like the way you are unable to comment to correct this mistake... <_<

Face it: IE pwns Opera.
To be fair though, this is from the same "expert" software review site that rates BitDefender best AV.

Re: Browser Wars 2013
One with huge sharp horns I hope - ones that a mousey could easily become impaled on.
Failing that - I drink the red bull and do unimaginable harm to the mouse.
I ask you - what evil must live within that mouse to make him dredge up those horrific memories. That "Client from hell" contacted me about 2 weeks ago. I ignored the message - he phoned again and *sigh* I stupidly answered. After assuring him that I am much to busy to come through to talk to the guy he has doing his computers - he asked me to phone said guy. I refused but begrudgingly agreed that said victim could contact me should he feel the need. The guy did not but as he wasn't able to get the computers to connect to the internet - the CFH insisted on phoning me and made the guy talk to me. *Sigh* poor chap - being useless is one thing, having to talk to a female to get you to sort it out - well that must just be humiliating!

Re: Browser Wars 2013
What is the best browser for South African conditions?
Now let me qualify.... I am assuming here that hardware is not the issue, nor network reliability.
What I'm on about is the fact that very, very few people can afford a truly high-speed connection.
So lets assume everything else is in order and as an example one had to make do at best with 3G speed or less.

Re: Browser Wars 2013
All of them. At its core, the browser is merely a client for HTTP traffic; your choice of client makes little choice to how the underlying protocol operates.ghett0_ghuru wrote:What is the best browser for South African conditions?

If you're concerned about bandwidth usage, the traditional solutions (disable images, javascript, CSS) etc. are still valid. If you'd really like to go to the extreme, lynx is still in active development.
Disclaimer: I am aware that Opera has a "Turbo" mode that compresses traffic, but due to (1) the proprietary nature of the compression protocol, and (2) the fact that it relies on redirecting traffic through their servers (which then compress the data and send it to the client), I explicitly discourage use of this feature for privacy and security reasons.

Re: Browser Wars 2013
Firefox or Chrome. Both can use Adblock Plus, which is useful for things like Youtube and Facebook where adverts take up a decent portion of your data usage. Firefox also has NoScript and Flagfox, both are really helpful for security reasons. Internet Explorer is a waste of time and as Ron2K mentioned, Opera's Turbo compresses data but it still runs through their servers. Whether they check it or not, it's still a security risk.ghett0_ghuru wrote:What is the best browser for South African conditions?

There is an AdBlock Plus extension for Opera as well. I use it.

Do you ever get the impression that these types of surveys, or any survey really, should not be conducted in the United States?

Re: Browser Wars 2013
this "testing" sounds like a bunch of scripts being spewed at the browser from an external tool... which means this is more likely to be an API/education fail than a browser fail... they have no knowledge of the quality of the code being tested, what was being tested or how many browsers were involved...
all they have is an enormous number of useless data points they're using to plug their product...
(i love that buried in the ad-copy is a line which explicitly states "Selenium is not a testing framework" and then moves on to rave about how great it is for testing.. )
more rubbish data from which monkeys are trying to extrapolate facts/profits...

and I'm still peeved that I cannot jump to a given page in Chrome PDF viewer nearly as easily as I can in other web browsers.
