I went and played with several handsets at the Cell C Store at Vincent Park this morning, and would say that the Nokia X2-01 is a very good fit for me and my budget. R69 a month on Straight Up 30.Animal wrote:Any idea what you'll be getting?StarPhoenix wrote:FINALLY!
If had had to choose between those it would probably be the Blackberry 9360 or the Samsung Gio.

Um....so all is not well with Android devices-otherwise, why would one want to root them?

They work well in general. Some users just want more or to fiddle and tweak.StarPhoenix wrote:Um....so all is not well with Android devices-otherwise, why would one want to root them?
And some apps require root.

I bought a Bodyglove Anti Glare screen protector for the S3 as it was the only one I could find.
I really don't like it. Makes the screen look like its "wet" or "snowy" if that makes sense. Spoils the lovely screen of the S3. It does its job well of reducing glare and doesn't show fingerprints that easily.

Why don't you buy a case or sleeve for your telephone, and only expose the screen when you are texting, making a call or doing smartphony things?

No. All the various versions of android have specific hardware requirements, and of course not all phones meet said requirements.StarPhoenix wrote:So you can't just sommer install any version of Android on a smart phone?
no, android is perfectly fine. why would one want to root them? well it's the same reason for why you would want to customize your car, PC or overclock your PC. So you can add your personal touch or get it to do things it otherwise would not be able to doStarPhoenix wrote:Um....so all is not well with Android devices-otherwise, why would one want to root them?
You were considering Nokia, all is not well with Nokia if you ask me and I really would not buy one

Re: All about Smartphones and Tablets...
A pity about Nokia. My little 2710C is such a pleasure to use. Why is Nokia in so much trouble?
At the moment, I am leaning towards keeping the above device instead of upgrading, waiting out the duration of my contract, and going prepaid again. It may just serve my needs better. When my 2710 does eventually stop working, I'll replace it with whatever is cheap and adequate for my needs.
I was going to change to Straight Up 30, but then I though.....I probably won't use the 30Mb of data, and not much of the call time. As it is, I am wasting money on ControlChat 100. I should have gone lower, but suckered myself into signing up for a package that would include what was to me a pretty fancy mobile device [Samsung Star]
Hope I don't make that mistake again. [It wouldn't be the first time I squander money on things I don't need or end up not using....]

Re: All about Smartphones and Tablets...
Imagine a tablet... with a keyboard! Yeah the ipad has something similar but I havent seen office for the ipad yet.
I'm still trying to fathom the tablet cost and utility of a laptop vs a laptop with hard keyboard and usability on a wobbley surface (hehe). I think they are targeting a market that already has the superior product. But maybe they show something we never thought of.

It has to do with their OS, people want android not what Nokia have decided to stick withStarPhoenix wrote:A pity about Nokia. My little 2710C is such a pleasure to use. Why is Nokia in so much trouble
Its the same reason why blackberry are staring to struggle in many countries
Its Microsoft tying to reinvent themselves again, they want a piece of the tablet action as they don't exactly do well thereKALSTER wrote:Soooo, Microsoft Surface hey? What the deal with that...

Wait until the Surface Pro comes out and get that. Comes with an i5 quad core CPU and full Windows 8.

If it can be downgraded to win 7 I want it. Not so keen on Windows 8, looks like another ME/VistaKALSTER wrote:Wait until the Surface Pro comes out and get that. Comes with an i5 quad core CPU and full Windows 8.
Still it is surprising that one of Microsoft's new ventures is actually good
Re: All about Smartphones and Tablets...
Well, since Windows 8 is touch screen optimised, I would imagine that it would fit the Surface Pro perfectly. If you downgrade to Windows 7, then you have a netbook.
