BIOS problems? anyone

Post by genade »

i am using a MSI X58 PRO Gaming series Mobo [MS-7522], Windows 7 Pro 64 bit [6.1 Build 7601], 6 x 1Gig Transcend Ram, Intel[R] Core[TM] i7 CPU 920@2.67GHz[8 CPUs] ~2.7GHz, A-Open 750W PSU. i picked up this problem in the week-i wanted to go into the bios to change the boot sequence, which i have done before with no problems. on start up-waited for beep, then pressed DEL during post. received a black screen with the words WAIT.... in the centre. waited for a long time, -+ 20 minutes, made a cuppa and pressed the hard shut down. booted into windows with no problem-shut down again and try to enter bios again on startup, and the same WORD again. only waited -+2minute before hard shutdown again. pressed the clear cmos button on board-still the same WAIT.... then removed cmos battery and replaced same, WAIT.... i am told again-anyone with ideas???please!!!

MOOD - Thirsty

A surprising amount of modern pseudoscience is coming out of the environmental sector. Perhaps it should not be so surprising given that environmentalism is political rather than scientific.

I hereby inform you that I am not an IT specialist and will never strive to be one. That I will leave to the younger generation. Are you willing to help an old guy?
I have never 'flashed' any thing before in my life, although the thought might have crossed my mind at some time or other, way back when. LOL [laugh out loud]. Could, or would someone be willing to tell me the steps I need to take in order to flash the BIOS. I need knowledge and I am not too old to learn from anyone. That is the purpose of this forum after all, or am I in the wrong place?

Please have a look at the link I posted - that person had the same problem as you.

Take it back to whoever sold you the system and let them fix it. If you can't get into your bios for whatever reason then it might be more than just the drives being an issue. alternatively switch of the pc, remove the drives power and sata cable that is currently the boot drive, turn on the pc and see what happens. It should tell you to enter the bios.

Thank you StarBound. I will try that. If I allow the system to boot normally, I can go into windows with no problem.

Did you install the Live Update utility that came with your motherboard? If not, then install it (should be on one of the CDs that came with your motherboard) and then check to see if there is a bios update. If there is, update it from within Live Update.

I haven't had an MSI motherboard for donkey's years, but it's a fairly straightforward process on Gigabyte motherboards, so I'm sure you won't have much trouble with it.

Yep as stu said, update the bios.

You wont need to go anywhere near the bios whilst updating it. Just use the os based update utility as described in the post above. However if you have not looked at the link doo_much posted then I suggest you do, looks like something very similar was happening there so it may solve your problem
