nvidia driver and win7 crash

Post by wellyn »

I have a problem with my graphics card and the nvidia drivers. When I was running on xp I had no problems then I upgraded to win7. If I run the default windows drivers then everything is stable, but when I load the dedicated drivers from nvidia or from palit whebsite then windows crash. I have tried diferent drivers but no joy.
Who crashed say it is a video TDR error probably caused by nvlddmkm.sys module and dxgkrnl.sys module
running Palit gts 250 card.

What version of Nvidia drivers are you using? This: http://www.geforce.com/Drivers/Results/38915 ??
What flavour of Win 7? 32 or 64bit?

Is windows crashing with a BSOD or does it give you a small pop-up in the right hand corner telling you that "The Display Driver" (TDR) stopped working and has recovered?

Perhaps try installing an earlier version of the Nvidia drivers and see how that goes.
First uninstall the current drivers and then install the other ones.
CPU: AMD Phenom II X2 555 (OC'ed to 3.8Ghz)

GPU: Sapphire Radeon HD5850
Motherboard: Asus M4A785T-M

Try previous version of the drivers and see what happens.

Are you using the latest drivers?

tried old drivers to ones i downloaded yesterday, all the same 10min or so and then crash. Uninstall and let windows load it's own drivers and now problems. The onley hickup with that is you cannot access you card with any of the tools. So no temp or fanspeed of overclock or anything.

These tools you speak of. What are they?

Are you over clocking you card?
Perhaps uninstall all these tools, uninstall your graphics card and then re-install your gfx card without any tools.

It is the vtune or nvidia system tools to check the settings of the card like temp, fan speed, clock speed, ram, est. and it only work with nvidia drivers installed. The problem is without the vtune or nvidia system tools installed and it does not matter whether they are installed or not, Onley when I install the drivers from nvidia or Palit the 10min ore so windows crash.

So all these crashes are on the v185.93 drivers. Any crashes on v285.63?

And that 3rd Party driver comments leads me to believe it's driver related.
Totally uninstall the gfx card. Look for utilities that will clean up drivers on your system and re-install with the latest drivers. Perhaps one revision back and see.

Replaced nvlddmkm.sys file from wddm1.1 with a newer one from wddm 2.0. Has been 2 days and no blue screen yet.
