Hi guys,
I need some info quickly. I’m use to using windows platform, so clueless when it comes to MAC.
My girlfriend works in the Film Production Industry, and they mainly use “Final Cut Pro”, “Avid” and “Adobe Premier” to edit the footage. I’ve loaded Avid on my laptop [Acer Aspire 5336], and it seriously battles to run. Hence I’m looking into buying her a Mac now. I’m sceptical though, because the specs on these aren’t all that impressive, so I don’t want to end up purchasing one that won’t cope.
I can’t afford to buy a top of the range Mac brand new; therefore I want to get a “Used” one. I’m looking to spend about R6500 max on it.
I basically have 3 Questions:
1. “Which Mac Book Model do I buy? [Specs requirements as well please]
That will be able to run the above mentioned software with ease?”
2. Is there a equivalent windows application that is just as recognized in the Film Industry?
3. Is there local Mac Forum I could join, to get more Mac related expertise?
Any and All useful advice is very much appreciated.
Thanks, Fred

Have you spoken to your girlfriend
She should know exactly what specs her software needs to run.
You wont be doing much quality video editing on that Acer Aspire, or any notebook you could get on your current budget.
Hardware specs for Adobe Premier:

You generally don't do video editing on notebooks since you need plenty of fast disk space that only multiple SSD's or Raid arrays can provide.
Hardware specs for Avid:
PC Specs
Mac Specs
Probably the same Mac specs for Final Cut - I've never uses either of these myself, but I can Google...
Best of luck.

Hi Jamin,
I also figured im setting the bar rather low regarding the budget. Hence iv decided to save up some more, and just keep up to date with new models and prices.
Im checking online if there's another app that produces the same results, but has lower system requirements. Do you perhaps know of any software in particular i could have a look at?
Thank for the help thus far.

Off the top of my head Edius and Sony Vegas are well liked by many people in the broadcasting/film industries...
