Laptop R7k-R11k suggestions

Post by Puento »

Hi,

I need some help on choosing a new laptop for a friend.
He is the casual gamer, watching movies, listening to music and so on.

He's interested in the MSI GX740 core i7 with a mean AMD 5870 (but in my opinion its already old tech, with the new sandy bridge laptops arriving).

im really clueless, please give me some suggestions? anything around R10k...

Thanks 8)

How about getting a Sandy Bridge laptop and then buying a good GFX to upgrade?

IMO the first thing to look at with a laptop is the kind of warranty you get. Might even be worth spending a bit more to extend it to how ever long he'll probably be using it, maybe even a fetch and return warranty.

Some Googling suggests it is not as easy as upgrading a desktop. Only some laptops allow a GPU upgrade and the cards are very expensive. Might have to go for a gaming ready system.

The MSI laptop you mentioned doesn't look bad at all imo, for the price. It's got a nice 17" screen as well. Only a 1 year warranty though, which is just begging Murphy to show up in month 13.
