Re: October Edition
Please PM me your Name and subscriber number (if you have it) and then I will pass the information on to the revelant people.
We will then also investigate why there was no disc with your mag.

Re: October Edition
With respect to the Z68 motherboard reviews
Where did you export the ASROCK motherboards from?
Why did you not spec a "middle-ground" R5000 AMD A8 build and the R15000 behemoth. Is the Core i3 really that bad a choice in a budget gaming machine?

Re: October Edition
According to Jump and Pricecheck, it is possible to buy Asrock boards locally, but they may not be what you are looking for.
You could try Takealot or NGR's import service, but you are likely to have to pay through your nose for the Z68 boards in the article.
Your best best bet would probably be to befriend someone who is going abroad shortly.

Re: October Edition
It is a shame that you cant get them here and not for those prices as it would be the bargain of the century......particularly in the case of the Asrock Z68 Extreme 4.
One other thing I wonder about is why did they go for an AMD in their " The workststion" build. Yes it has 6 cores but would an Intel i7 2600K not be better and why did they get Windows home premium?? I would also like to see you guys do some benchmarks to compare the AMD A8 to the core i3

Re: October Edition
Perhaps in future PCF can point us to where we can go to import such hardware at the quoted price.THE_STIG wrote:It is a shame that you cant get them here and not for those prices as it would be the bargain of the century......particularly in the case of the Asrock Z68 Extreme 4.

HardwareSecrets wrote: There is good news and bad news about the new A-Series CPU from AMD we reviewed, the A8-3850.
The good news is that its integrated graphics controller is simply the best integrated solution we’ve seen so far. It was way faster than the Core i3-2100’s and, on Lost Planet 2, it was even faster than a GeForce GT 430, making us suspect that it is optimized for DirectX 11 games. It was also faster than a GeForce GT 430 for applications that use the GPU for processing (GPGPU), such as converting video files using Media Espresso.
Also on the good side, applications that perform better with four “real” cores will perform better on the A8-3850 than on the Core i3-2100, which has only two “real” cores and two “simulated” ones, using Hyper-Threading technology.
The bad news is that, aside from gaming and 3D rendering, the Core i3-2100 is faster and, depending on the application, by a large margin.
So, if you are a gamer on a really tight budget, the new A8-3850 is a really nice option. But if you are an average user who won’t play games, the Core i3-2100 is a better option.

Gee thanks. My copy is still lying unopened - now I have one less article to read.

Re: October Edition
I'm running a Core i3 2100 in my rig coupled to an AMD Radeon 6850 and have not yet found been hamstrung by any game. I bought the chip after reading a lot of the reviews on Tom's and at the time, the i3 mopped the floor with most of the multi-core chips AMD had to offer. Not interested in overclocking and the two cores are well threaded, best budget chip IMO
