New graphics card for R4500
Hi Guys and Girls
I want to upgrade my PC a little.
My system is
Asus maximus III Gene socket 1156
Intel Core i5 760
2*2 Gig axeram DDR3 2000
Geforce GTS250
600 watt PSU although max rated at 585 watts
Standard cooling fans and USB keyboard and mouse.
I want to upgrade my GFX card, I have a R4500 budget
I was looking at these cards
http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/produc ... s_id=52573
http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/produc ... s_id=45864
http://www.sybaritic.co.za/store/produc ... s_id=54509
As I read reviews etc the Ati cards struggled against the nvidia? Am I correct in saying this?
I want a decent card please help me.
Would I also need to upgrade my PSU?

Re: New graphics card for R4500
You can get a GTX580 from Rebeltech for that price. Otherwise the GTX570 is your best bet imo. It beats out the 6970 in a lot of benchmark and comes with other benefits like PhysX etc. Alternatively, you might consider an SLI setup, like two GTX560Ti's, which would beat any single card, except for the GTX590 and 6990.
Your PSU might be on the limit though. What brand is it?

In that price range you should be able to get either a GTX570 or a GTX580, or as KALSTER said you could go for a SLi setup consisting of two GTX560's......but if you dont want to fiddle with SLi then go for the GTX580 if you can find one in you price range

For 4.5k you can not get a 580 unless you have some serious contacts.THE_STIG wrote:In that price range you should be able to get either a GTX570 or a GTX580, or as KALSTER said you could go for a SLi setup consisting of two GTX560's......but if you dont want to fiddle with SLi then go for the GTX580 if you can find one in you price range

I'd do the SLI thing on the 550Ti's. Cheaper than a GTX570 and it would probably kick a GTX580

At Rebeltech you can, like I said, though I see they are sold out.For 4.5k you can not get a 580 unless you have some serious contacts.
You can get two GTX560Ti's for under R2100 though.

580gtx. I wont go sli again (ppl know why) so either go 580gtx, 570gtx, or 6970. The 5870 is as fast as the 560ti which is cheaper.

Re: New graphics card for R4500
The site does not work atm, but I think that one is sold out, if you mean the Inno3D GTX580. There is a Leadtech for R4800 I think.

Re: New graphics card for R4500
How good is the leadteck GTX580? I really like the Asus brand. Would a R500 price difference be worth the extra performance?
Re: New graphics card for R4500
Leadtek comes with a 2 year warranty and isn't bad.
What resolution screen do you have? A GTX570 will play probably everything at full HD quality, especially with a good CPU like you have. I don't think you would even notice a difference in most instances. I'd save a bunch and go for the GTX570.
Rebeltech has a Gigabyte GTX570 for R4072, with aftermarket cooling as well. Good deal imo.

Re: New graphics card for R4500
it seems as though everyone has covered all the good gpus but ill throw in my opinion anyway...
I'd get get Nvidia over ATI. That's leaves me with gtx560 570 and 580.
The GTX580 is at the top, and in 3D Mark Vantage it scores 24848 on the GPU score
Followed by the GTX 570 at 21569
And lastly the GTX560 at 17912.
But now you could throw in 2 GTX 560's in SLI, which generally costs the same as 1 GTX580.
The Vantage GPU score is 31094.
So as you can see the 560s beat the single 580, they score around 10 fps more in Metro 2033, in Far Cry 2 it scores 37 fps more.
Do yourself a favour and check out a few benchmarks for yourself and you can compare performance and price.
If I was in your position I'd have to do some proper research to be able to choose between a GTX580 and 2 GTX560's in SLI

I'd also rather get the GTX560's in SLI, though StarBound seems to have experienced some problems in the past and I am not sure if his PSU would be able to handle it. You can get two GTX560Ti's for under R4100 at Rebeltech.
For a single card I'd rather save a few bucks and get the GTX570, but if I was the one buying, I'd get the GTX560Ti's in SLI.
Then again, I would not be happy with micro-stutter. Mmmmm..... GTX570.

Re: New graphics card for R4500
I would go for a single GPU, less problem, less noise, less power consumption, less heat, more space
I played battlefield 3 beta flawlessly with my 560ti so I'm sure a 570 and above would suffice for future proofing.

Re: New graphics card for R4500
My problem was a faulty SLI bridge and then some frame rate issues that werent present with a single card.KALSTER wrote:I'd also rather get the GTX560's in SLI, though StarBound seems to have experienced some problems in the past and I am not sure if his PSU would be able to handle it.

Look if you have a screen that refreshes at 60hz then you only need to look for a card that does 60fps. I won't be happy with less than 120fps.
