How to stream media?

I'm new to this streaming thing and suggestions from tech-savvies will be appreciated.

Is it possible to stream media from an external hard drive to the rest of my devices such as PS3, PSP, Wii, wireless enabled TV (without having to turn on a PC)? Is there such a device or is "streaming" the wrong term? I want a single storage point from which all the wi-fi devices can play the media from...

Besides buying a router that has built in USB support I dont know of anything else. Will watch this thread closely...

Don't need one. Just connect it to the wired network; your wireless access point will take care of the rest.
