Patent holding company Lodsys is going ahead with its plan to sue several iOS developers for allegedly infringing on a patent that the company holds, despite Apple stepping to say that their license agreement covers its developers. Several developers have had cases filed against them early, apparently in response to “Apple’s threat, in order to preserve its [Lodsys’] legal options”

Re: Lodsys to carry on regardless
Nice that the world is jumping on the patent troll bandwagon when Apple and Google are accused of IP theft and copyright infringement...
Has anyone even read the claim by Lodsys, or been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?
I hope Lodsys win and get one hundred trillion dollars [Dr Evil finger pose].
I would love to see Apple take one square in the jaw and go down twitching

But it's app devs being sued here and not Apple so that's not happening here.

Only because it is easier to take them on than to take on the legal team Apple can buy with its extremely deep pockets.Hman wrote:But it's app devs being sued here and not Apple so that's not happening here.

What RRF said, but all Lodsys need to do is win one lawsuit against a Dev and then they can bankroll a go at Apple and some real money.

What jamin said... was actually thinking of updating my post to include it but there you go. Better said by him than mejamin_za wrote:What RRF said, but all Lodsys need to do is win one lawsuit against a Dev and then they can bankroll a go at Apple and some real money.
If they win one lawsuit against a dev then they can go after the company who illegally gave the devs the stuff to use. Apple was only licensed to use the toolkits and/or framework internally.

Either way, I'm not losing sleep about this. The only apple I touch is the type you eat.

Re: Lodsys to carry on regardless
Lodsys have already confirmed that Apple and Google have licensed the patents (and have liability clauses in dev agreements, absolving them for the most part), they're probably only going to be hitting the devs. Google is quiet so far, Apple believes that they were well within their rights to include Lodsys' patent in their dev tools.
The way it is structured now, it'd be cheaper for the devs being sued to just pay Lodsys for the license than to fight it in court unless Apple takes over most of the legal costs. If Lodsys makes their case stick, they will probably wind up suing a lot more people and Lodsys seems pretty confident. But then, the area in Texas where they have filed their cases is known to be very sympathetic to patent holders historically.
