Online gaming match setup thread

Post by Siemens »

As the name states. Every now and then me and some other randoms decide to play some online game for a few rounds or so. Usually older games however new games as well. I am sure you guys are doing the same. I always welcome others to join us. If you want others to join in here is the place to announce it. Maybe if the thread gains popularity it will get a sticky(it sure beats searching for an old topic and necroing it each time).

Online gaming in SA is frustrating to say the least with the lack of servers and variety of games being played. In order to develop this I will inform you all on games that we are busy playing.

Add me on xfire: siemens42
We prefer only to communicate via xfire. If you don't have it then get it. (http://www.xfire.com/ )

====================================================

For the next week or more we are playing Battle for Middle-Earth II Patched to V1.06. The online servers were shut down by EA games so we are playing it via Hamachi which creates the illusion that we are actually LANing the game. Add me on x-fire for the server ip and password.

We're also playing a lot of CoD4 mostly on the iGame servers

Here is the PCF network set up by Bladerunner. Just note that different groups of friends will of course play on their own VPN so not all the gaming will be done on this VPN. If you post details of your own online matches then please supply us as much detail as possible or provide a way to contact you.
Bladerunner wrote:1. Download Hamachi: http://hamachi.en.softonic.com/download
2. Install, let it resolve your IP and do whatever it likes.
3. Click "Join existing network".

Network: PCF-A
Pass: logmein

You should be able to see all the different users, those who are online will have a green bubble. You can right click on a username to chat with them.

Note that it creates a virtual network (VPN = virtual private network), so basically it's going to work like a LAN. People will be able to see all your shared folders and download from you.
Please unshare your folders if you have sensitive information, or a limited cap.

I've wanted to create a VPN, then you'll have no problems seeing which of your friends are online and you can "LAN" games instead of connecting to a server (don't get technical, I realise it's not a true LAN). I've tried it with the people from the afrikaans thread, but we don't catch each other online much and it never really took off.

Well here is the place to do it. If I knew about it I wouldve joined in.
Stig, as I said you'll have to get xfire first.

Time zones are my enemy here, but let me know when you play any flavour of Starcraft and I'll make an attempt.

Okay we can use Hamachi then. I'm not sure what kind of ping we're looking at, so we can test it with quake.

Is there any way of seeing what are South Africa's most active gaming servers? We're getting tired of CoD4 and want to move on to something different. We just don't want to buy a game that's got a very inactive local community. Also note that most of us are on Mweb so no SGS(saix).
