My little all alu & perspex case project (fixed pics)
Hello guys
Okay so this project has been in my head for almost a year now... It all started when my bro and I built a box for him, made only of perspex...
Well it does look good and all, but we had to use glue for it and that was messy and it made bubbles everywhere so I didn't want to use glue. My only alternative was to build a frame out of aluminium and then add the perspex. Another thing I did not want was all the cables, it does not look at all nice so I will have to think of a method to solve this problem....
So I looked everywhere but could not find the right alu profile that I wanted, I found something else that I have bought which I will be using. I made a Sketchup model of it (H angle alu.. I think it's called that lol):
So this alu will be fastened the angle alu like so:
and it will need to be cut at the right angles to be able to fit together to form a box:
this is more or less how the box should look without the perspex:
A little rendering of the box:
o ja the colour scheme of the case is going to be black and red, with a little bit of white..... The alu is going to be black with red pop rivets to hold everything together.. I have started and I think it looks very cool:
I would really like to know what you guys think of this... thanks for reading

You've done it correctly. I've just seen that imageshack sometimes doesn't show on these forums. Some browsers will see them. Some won't.

Re: My little all alu & perspex case project (fixed pics)
I like your idea. Its a slightly different take on the normal Plexi cases. This way though you have places to hide cables (In the corners). You could have a seriously clean build coming. Did you paint or anodise the alu?

at first I read, "my little pony"
looks good. make sure you prep the alu properly or the paint won't stick.

Re: My little all alu & perspex case project (fixed pics)
You could have it all tig welded. If you are in PTA I know of a guy BUT he's crap at welding and you will have to repaint. Or you could make little "patches" that you screw to the inside of the corners to fix everything together.

Well I dont know of any places in Howick but maybe there will be a place in Pietermaritzburg, otherwise you will have to go all the way to Durbs.
Here in Joburg there is a place in the CBD called 'Plastic World' that sell any sort of perspex you want:
http://www.plasticworld.co.za/ I am not sure if they deliver though
