Computer keeps freezing
Computer keeps freezing
My sister's PC keeps freezing. Sometimes it freezes as early as the 3d card boot info. Other times it gets to loading windows and sometimes it freezes while working on the PC.
Most likely I'm guessing that it's the primary HDD that is failing. I'd just like to hear what some other people think.

Re: Computer keeps freezing
Could also be bad RAM.
Re: Computer keeps freezing
Turn on the S.M.A.R.T feature in the bios and boot. See if it complains about the HDD.

Re: Computer keeps freezing
And could we have the specs of said PC??
Re: Computer keeps freezing
Motherboard: Epox MF570SLI
CPU: AMD 3800x2
GFX: XFX 8600gt 256mb
Ram: 2gb ddr2 samsung
HDD: seagate 80gb sata drive (primary), 40gb IDE seagate
PSU: 400W AOpen
Besides the pc freezing, it seems like it randomly goes off. Tried using a different PSU but that didn't help either
EDIT: Changed GFX card

Re: Computer keeps freezing
And that PSU, probably is not powerful enough to supply all that(especially the 8800)
Re: Computer keeps freezing
whoops. meant 8600gt
As far as I can see the 400W is more than enough for her system. Will try unplugging the other hdd and report back

Re: Computer keeps freezing
Stiggy, I'm runnng the same MF570SLi with a Phenom 2 965, 3x Sata hdd, 9600GT, 3gig ram over 4 slots and that very same AOPen 400W PSU, and it powers the system just fine. Unless it took a dive, which is possible, it's certainly powerful enough.THE_STIG wrote:And that PSU, probably is not powerful enough to supply all that(especially the 8800)
Hell, if I didn't know any better, I'd say my system has just been jacked
Re: Computer keeps freezing
Unplugged the 40gb secondary HDD and it still freezes. I really can't think that its the power supply as it has been running fine for a long time. I switched it out with the PSU om my mothers PC (same PSU) and it still continues to freeze.

Re: Computer keeps freezing
Then start looking at memory and cpu core temperatures... The 4 digit series of amd was notorious for temperature problems... Had 4 of them

Only thing I can think of then might be faulty memory

Sigh. Now I need to go look for RAM to test with

Re: Computer keeps freezing
Don't have RAM to test with atm but just reseated the RAM that was already in there and it booted up fine. Will let it run for a while and hope that, that was all it needed

Re: Computer keeps freezing
I had the same problem once at a LAN... Very bad! Try cleaning your RAM stick regularly.

Re: Computer keeps freezing
Does anything of yours actually work??

Are you talking to me?

Yes! All my hardware works. And my software works too. In some cases accidents/things/errors happen.
