You see the i5 760 + Hunter cover + 4GB ram = R2900 but why are the older Cpu's ...like 660 more expensive ?
Sorry for the long thread I have about R3500 so I can choose between any of the above :) just not sure if I should go for the 760 with the hunter:/

Thanks

man if i can give you some golden advice - dont buy an intel board...

go straight for asus ; gigabyte ; EVGA etc...the quality of an intel board is generic at best IMO.

hope this helps man

8) the brotherhood has spoken

Asus has great features on there boards, good layouts & overclocks very well but some of there boards has ram compatibility issues & the technical service is horrible IMO (from personal experience).

Gigabyte's boards are ROCK solid & have superb technical service & just as good overclockers so i guess its up to you.

Lasly - gigabyte's boards have a much easier bios,so overclocking & general trouble shooting is much easier, others might disagree with me but the ultra durable sig on gigabyte's boards live up that name. 8)

At your price point I dont know if you can afford anything other than a intel board. An i5 750/760 sets you back R2000 and an Intel P55WG sets you back another R1500. I wanted to get one of the Gigabyte U-series boards but after looking at board layouts I came to the conclusion that my current board (MSI P55-GD85) has the best layout for motherboards when it comes to crossfire/SLI and other cables that still need to get into the board. And it has the pci-e x1 ports at the bottom so you can easily go crossfire with duel slot cards. The Gigabyte board wouldnt allow me to use my xonar card because there wasnt enough room above the pci-e x16 slot and the 2nd pci-e gfx slot was a 8x and you need to boot with a card in the 1st slot.

So MSI all the way :P

DON'T BUY A LGA1156 CHIP AND BOARD.

The new LGA1155 platform launches on the 4th Jan. Your LGA1156 system will be worthless once the new ones are launched.

yeah, i agree with Smiley....

i have always had either a Asus or Gigabyte board, and none of them ever had any issues at all, whereas the Intel board we use at work, we tend to replace on or two every month....... nuff said

Ok I see,

1st I got em suppliers from work so the chip is about R1300 to R1700. the 760 im getting at 1444. the boards i put on are ones i can afford:) and I am looking for just the chip n board (right now om still @ P4 3Ghz  ):)

2. what do you mean by worthless? do you mean the price of the parts will drop? I just want to run my games smoothly so anything better than a p4 will do im already running a 5770 so thats shedding the load off my cpu.

so ya i just looking for a temp upgrade before christmas because i am on leave and cant play when im working:)

I am gonna get a giga or asus by the looks of it:)

I mean worthless in that the platform will be dropped aka your processor and motherboard will be OBSOLETE. You will have to give it away when you want to upgrade.

yea intel really sucks now IMO - how long will 1155 last before intel drops it?

I understand so you saying it better to get an AM3 setup?

and is it true that the 1155 doesn't support usb 3.0?.

I don't mind giving it away when I upgrade because I am always laning with me m8s :D

Almost forgot then what is the best CPU up there? 760 or the 680 because the 680 is running at R400 more :O??????????

I would go for the i5 760 from that list.
I think it was in September that Toms Hardware recommended the i5 750 (they didn't have the i760 to test with but said either the 750 or 760 would do) and the Asus P7P55D-E LX as the best chip/mobo combo as part of their best Enthusiast PC build.
Add a good graphics card and it becomes an extremely competent gaming machine.

With regards to the socket change 1156 to 1155. I wouldn't worry about it - yes a LGA1156 chip will be worth less next year but do you honestly care? If you can get the chip and board at a good price I say go for it.

Never buy an Intel Board and Never buy a chipset that is about to be replaced.

I would say look at the new range of Gigabyte UD3 motherboards when they come out.

Ah good point, I am trying to get hold of the P7P55D-E LX but they out of stock :(:(

Anyway I got the chip sorted should be picking up the items tomorrow. Also is the maximus gene 3 worth a pick its only R450 more than the P7P55D-E LX? or will a MSI ms-p55-GD56/ MS-P55A-G55 be better choice than the maximus?

Considering these prices why hasnt anyone said I should with AM3 with the price of these items I can go for an x6?? lol

you should actually forget about the 1156 platform. 1155 is in and when the i7 chips are out the i5 chips will be cheaper. BUT if you must then get the Gene. Its much better than the LX or GD65. AM3 is kind of MEH, intel is just better on every front (except price) the 760's also clock high (should do 4ghz easily) even my crappy old 750 got 4.8ghz

Oh if you want a REALLY good board for cheap then look at the Gigabyte H55 S2
http://www.prophecy.co.za/gigabyte-h55m ... 73275.html
I do believe this board holds the BCLK world record (316 BCLK)

I checked it out the mobo is awesome i think i ran up the companies bill making all em phone calls them peoples closing like 24th :O lazy people

Correction ppl are closing the 24th at 15:00. I would really still recommend a MSI P55-GD85. But what about the RAM and the OS? Surely your not going to buy just a board and cpu? And you need windows 7 to show what the cpu can really do.

Just my personal pref. Like I said my graphics card and sound card both needed to fit with a avalible option to go SLI/crossfire. If your going to use onboard sound then maybe check the board layouts for a 2nd gfx card position and maybe check where the slots are incase you ever need to use a pci-e 1x slot or so on.

Ah oki will do will check it out today gonna fetch me parts just waiting 5 mins for the supplier to open lol,

Yeah Ill take a look then I will see if I need to get other things. 1 prob though I used the power rating on the forum it gave about 346W with the board ,i5 and HD5770. 1 rom ,1 HDD. So is it still ok to use a 500w psu? its coolmaster make but I am thinking of getting a new one to make me feel easy
