Website MCV reported early last month that major retailers in the UK were threatening to no longer stock PC games that used Steam in any way. The reason given was that Steam had almost created a monopoly on the download market. This may also have had something to do with the unnamed retailers wanting to start their own digital service. Last week Darryl Still, international publishing director for publisher 1C, responded to this news

I don't get it? So you refuse to sell games and the end result is you download from steam? My history with steam is one of hate and acceptance after all. 3 hours to activate half life 2 wasnt my idea of fun. And when I woke up and found it lost my half life 2 game files I was even more sparkly than usual.
But look at the past week. Those specials couldnt have been better. I got games that I normally wouldnt buy for the price of a single retail game. But adding that I have uncapped it was worth it. If I didnt these games would have been cheaper off the shelf.

Yea that is like going on strike and then earning no money in order to get more money.....sounds familiar doesn't it.
