I wouldnt take their word for it.lol. Trust your own knowledge/google before theirs...

Iv used vodacom E220 with a MTN and Cell C sim with out any issues, much to my surprise.. As I thought they were locked to the SP.

I guess the network will come online at some point. If you are worried, download the latest firmware from both Huawei and CellC, along with an application from Huawei to flash it. In my experience you can flash the modem with Huawei firmware and then set it up for any SP you like. Sometimes the Huawei firmware gives you extra capabilities as well.
