You know, the one thing I do NOT miss about XP is the simple activation process. You activated it on installation and that was that. With Vista and Windows 7, every now and again Windows suddenly deactivates itself and then I have to schlep to get the thing friggin activated again. Just five minutes ago, while I was happily working away, this popped up:

(I've superimposed my Genuine License sticker on there in case there are any questions.)

I've been running this installation for at least six months now. No recent hardware changes. No updates installed today. Most recent update was yesterday's Windows Defender update (KB915597). Most recent non-Windows Defender update was KB2388210 (Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems) on 2010/10/28.

Let's see what it takes to reactivate it this time. :?

Okay, wasn't too bad this time. Just required an automated call. Last time I actually had to speak to M$ and they couldn't figure out what was happening so they eventually recommended a complete format. It was a pain.

I've been using Windows 7 Since release day (well, since the beta, actually) and I've never, ever had to reactivate. What is it that you do with that machine of yours Stuart? :P
That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.

Well, that's the thing. I could understand if I did something to it. I can understand a borked update or a major hardware change requiring reactivation. But I was just sitting here typing in Word and BAM, popup in mah face! :(

No, all things electronic are still functioning properly. Although our geyser is making a funky noise this morning.

I think I should consider this defamation of character. If they don't stop it, I will shut down Microsoft. Even if I have to contact the police. The full weight of the law will come on them!
