Normally I'd point you to the New Members' Intro thread and tell you to introduce yourself, but I'm not sure that you'll find any friendly faces here as soon as people know you WANT WM.drewdoms11 wrote:I want the new Samsung Omnia 2 with a Windows Mobile 6.5 OS. RIM introduces PlayBook -- the BlackBerry tablet
Thoughts?
I think it looks very cool so far, nice specs, and I love the fact that it actually has HDMI with 1080p out and USB ports, something the iPad lacks.

I think the iPad finally got it's rival, and the reviews i've read about the playbook is fairly good..
Interesting fact: i heard there's many more of these tablet computers coming out in the due future, from many different companies, since there's a good market for them

Yup, huge market. You gotta give it to Apple that they basically create these new markets, but then other companies come and create even better products to compete. There is gonna be huge choice in the tablet space this time next year...

The first SA users start realising their mistake...

Dear Editor,
The iPhone 4 arrived in South Africa last week and I got mine immediately. This would be great; it's my first real Apple purchase in over 10 years. Soon to realise that the antenna issue was plaguing my handset.
My first ever call dropped, and over the weekend I lost network connection - three times! All because I was holding the phone incorrectly, albeit the most comfortable position in my hand. But, I remember Steve said that they want to "make every user happy", and that he promised free bumpers until 30 September.
So I went into the South African App Store to download the iPhone 4 Case Program (this is the requirement). Well, I was surprised to not find the app here. So now, something that was meant to be good turned into a double sour deal. First, the antenna issue, second, the false promises Apple made.
This is NOT the way to win over Windows users, but I think more importantly, I would like to know why this offer was not extended to South Africa? How can the second biggest US company, based on market cap, be allowed to blatantly ignore what they said, or is South Africa just not important enough?
This should be investigated as a lot of iPhone 4s were sold and a lot of consumers are getting the short end of the deal here.

I don't understand how people can read about an obvious hardware design problem for months now, still buy the phone, and proceed to moan about it...

I'm on my way to cape town and need internet to do some online banking. Previously i had a Nokia and it was very easy to connect to the internet using my phone as modem. Installed Nokia PC suite, connected the phone with bluetooth/USB, and clicked "connect".
But with my new blackberry its not that simple, cant connect with the USB or bluetooth. I did install the BB desktop manager but there is a lot of settings which is not familiar to me.
Please help me to set up my BB as a modem!
Thank you...

Don't do it Ryan, fight the temptation!
Wait for next year's iPhone. There's really not a whole lot more to the iPhone 4. I've played with it a few times myself. Incredibly sexy...

That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.

Haha, I love it man, that screen... yoh. And it'll go so nicely with my MacBook Pro...
I'll still keep my Desire for Android experimentation, and will probably also get a Windows Phone 7 device too...

Re: All about Smartphones and Tablets...
Donno whether I should start a new thread or just use this one. Scanned through this one, but do not really see what I need.
I am in the market for a Tablet PC. I have a sh!%-load of reading to do (for work), and most of the stuff I read is in PDF format. So I am in the market for a tablet PC, and originally thought of the iPad. Apart from the cost, everything seems to point to it as the obvious choice. However, doing a bit of research I noticed that:
- Samsung Galaxy,
- HP Pavilion tx2500z,
- ThinkPad X200, etc.
The issue I have with the iPad is that I do not know what software I get with the iPad, and what do I have to buy in addition to the software I get with the ipad. With windows based PC's I at least know what I am getting, as well as the prices of the software I have to buy in addition. Acrobar reader is also free
Any suggestions on a tablet pc from other users?
