Midnight Zephyr
So after building the Plex PC
After the upgrade, just running air, busy with a AM3 water block
Realizing that Plex is probably THE most static medium known to man, so I just can't keep it clean; So it's time for a new build.
I'm a big fan of 50's retro and used this for my inspiration:
This is the render of the final design, the lid will open with either a pneumatic cylinder or a linear actuator

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v285/ ... phyr/7.jpg
Here's the progress so far:
Base cut and ducting spot welded
The casing cut and bended

Re: Midnight Zephyr
So I had time to work on the case again, fitted a commercial Pneumatic cylinder but the stroke was too short, so it didn't open properly. Decided to make my own, this is the design, should be making these next week sometime
At this stage the air is supplied from my compressor, not the best idea but works for now till I get this in the post, should get it in the next 2 weeks.

Looking good! I think we have a new candidate for the title of "The modfather"
Will the speaker (in the background on the pool table) become part of the build?

Re: Midnight Zephyr
Figures say the CO2 runs 700 - 1000 Psi ; the regulator takes it down to 30 - 150 Psi , just right to give about 50 Newtons of force on eachPrime wrote: What sort of pressure you running those pneumatic cylinders at?

Re: Midnight Zephyr
Got this delivered Friday, goody
Now time for some serious updates....
Closed
Open
I painted the outside cover 2K black and then the Aerolak silver....... What a F'K up, the Aerolak silver looks more like cheap mirror chrome ( Besides the fact that it was R100 a tin) so I'll have to wait for it to dry and sand everything down and start again *Face palm...Mission Failed* . This time I'll get some Metallic base and clear everything.

Great work. I like the "hood effect", what colour are you going to paint it?

Re: Midnight Zephyr
Good grief....been so busy didn't have time to update, so here it goes.
Got there from a guy in Ukraine, they are for a Nixie Clock, but I might make a temp indicator, keeping with the retro feel
Got the lid and the base painted
All the bits for the CO2 cylinders painted and blasted....
And assembled
Most of it assembled ; CLOSED
OPEN
I have the bits fitted, but didn't take a photo, will post tomorrow. Will be running air for a while, it's cramped in there, don't really know where to put the manifolds
