Xbox LIVE SA launching November

Post by Drakonis »

About time
Xbox LIVE’s South African launch date has officially been set for 10 November this year. Along with the local launch, gamers who have got overseas Xbox LIVE accounts will be able to migrate to a South African account while retaining their entire profiles

As I said, total BS.

You pay R600 p/y for a "service" that is more expensive than what you can get in US/EU or the UK, then you will not get the full functionality as found in the overseas version, and to top it off, you are still connecting to EU/UK game servers and content file servers.

Also, MS can’t even guarantee that you can keep the licenses to the content you've already purchased, so when your Xbox HDD dies you will lose everything you bought while subscribed to the overseas service, they actually advise you to download all purchased content before moving over and then backing it up.

So you pay more, get less and still have to be OK with the servers in Europe.
So what changed? How is this "better"?

Sounding more and more like if you want the full features of LIVE then you have to come to term with the acceptance of lag and if you want low lag you will have to give up the major features. PSN isnt all that but after finding some locals I am now unwilling to pay for the multiplayer thats avalible on xbox.

How will your lag improve exactly?

If you search for games it will take local first before it takes the EU regions from SA? Thats my understanding anyway. PSN had the same crap with MW2. I got into games with people speaking a language I couldnt even identify. Then I got a few local tags and started adding players as I got a game. Now I have like 20 players to choose from and they have a small list to invite and so it goes on. Or am I wrong in this instance?

My understanding is you will be connecting to EU servers for file and game hosting, regardless.
The match-up will probably look at local who-is-online lists and then you will share similar lag, but there is no local servers.

I am still trying to get my head around what our incentive is to switch.
It isn't as though we can't already find locals to play with, is it?

Microsoft would have to block my UK account to persuade me to switch.
