wanting some advice on getting uncapped

Post by Ark »

Thinking its time to get myself online again, but this time I want to go uncapped.

Problem is I'm having a bit of a hard time finding prices and stuff.

Anybody got some recommendations on an ISP, what packages they offer, etc? Oh, and what's the line rental nowadays?

Check out Mwebs option R219 i think or theres a just surf option from axxess which isnt bad
Telkom line rental is about R152 now i think for a 384kbps line, haha im also after the uncapped now but havent got lines, got a 3g connection atm (but its expensive), but also have only got a prepaid landline at home so gota get that converted to a contract aswell, wait for Stu he seems to be helpful with these type of topics :P

Mweb has about the best uncapped offering right now.

Are you sure you need uncapped? What kind of data usage do you anticipate?

Last time I had internet, I consumed on average of about 40GB of bandwidth a month. I rate a 384k line unshaped will be enough for me, planning on playing the odd game now and then

If you're looking for UNSHAPED uncapped you're going to be paying through your nose. Unshaped uncapped on a 384k line is going to set you back R500pm with Mweb. That is as opposed to R220pm shaped for the same speed. Shaping during the day is hectic though. It eases slowly overnight, but you really only get full speed after midnight in my experience.

Don't go for the justSurf account from Axxess. It's horrible. Rather pay R100 more and try out the justUncapped option. Although I haven't tested that one.

Just stay away from justSurf, that's the important thing.

I've not tried the unshaped uncapped offerings from any of the providers, so I can't speak for how reliable they are, but as far as the shaped offerings are concerned, it doesn't matter which uncapped option you go for from Mweb. They're all heavily shaped during the day. Fine for browsing, but gaming, P2P--anything non-priority--crawls. If speed is important to you all around, rather stick with a capped account.

Unless, as Ark has suggested, he intends to go with an unshaped offering.
