According to an online article in the New York Times published earlier this month, police officers in Russia have been using searches for illegally installed Microsoft software in order to raid groups that are critical of the Russian government. The latest of these was a protest NGO called Baikal Environmental Wave and the resulting information, handed to Microsoft by the New York Times, has caused a shift in the Redmond company’s policies pertaining to NGOs in some countries
