Strange? 4870 stock artifacts, overclock artifacts gone

Post by 1nsan1ty »

how this for strange, right out the box, with the latest drivers my 4870 shows green dots all over the show when rendering games. Well playing around with ATI's auto tune utility which clocked the card @ 790 Core and 990 Memory, the card no longer hows any signs of these green dots! Strange ....

Can you please give your topic a more descriptive title? Otherwise I am inclined to nuke it...

Very strange indeed, I just know there's a question in there somewhere...

My suggestion would be to return it for a swapout. If it's showing signs like that out of the box, I wouldn't be surprised if it dies in the not too distant future.

You do have all of the power connectors connected, don't you?

all power cables are in yes, it wont boot if they aren't, this was my 1st thing to check.

It's a very strange card, it's the 1st 4870 i've seen without any coolers on the memory chips, only a gpu cooler with a HUGE 12cm fan. It's very very quiet i might add.

It's a MSI R4870-T2D1G-OC Radeon HD4870 16xPCIE 256-bit 1GB GDDR5. (supposed to be a factory OC card but it's dead stock clocks)

Edit found a pic of it online:

Weird. I would RMA and get RAM coolers.
