AMD announced yesterday that the company intends to phase out the ATI brand name by the end of this year. ATI as a graphics brand has been around for a quarter of a century. AMD intends to replace the ATI branding with AMD but the Radeon, Eyefinity and FirePro trademarks will remain, with AMD taking ATI’s place

Re: ATI is leaving soon
It'll be interesting to see how much of the name ATI's built over the last couple of years (in terms of price point performance, and in general being a slightly better bang-for-buck option than most, not all, of the Nvidia options) will be changed influenced by this. At the core the product should be the same, but image is a big part of it and there's a lot in a name that influences selling power....

I predict an influx of new members in mid-2011 asking where they can get an ATI graphics card from.

meh... anyone who places any value in brand names may get their knickers all twisted up, but seriously.. does it matter?
the fact that it didn't happen sooner has always been mildly puzzling to me...

Damn. Now I gotta change my filter!
But as Rusty said, I would have thought they would have changed it long time ago when AMD took over ATI.
But I would still like to see the name ATI. It differentiates the two subsidiaries from CPU and GPU all under the same umbrella.
