I have 9 24 port Switches.
7 of them are Cisco (100mb/s)
1 dell (1000mbs)
1 Dlink. (1000mbs)
How do i connect them ?
Can i just daisy chain them ?
Somewhere i have red that you shouldnt daisy chain more than 5 switches ?
So how do i connect them?
I want all of the servers about (10 of them) to be on the 1000mb section so that the transfer rate between them are quick.
9 24 port switches how do i join them ?

Do you have a network diagram? Are the servers all in the same space, or in the two places where the GB switches are located?
Any switch connected to the 100mb switch will of course only function at 100mb.
Network diagram would be ideal.

very, very, carefully... are you engineering portopolis?
have you considered your network's design/sub-netting?
those Cisco's running any vlans?

also, this made me cough:

Ok its all in one server room, only the one Cisco switch has a V-lan (I found this out a while back when i for some reason switched the cables around and I had
weird and constant disconnects.)
One of the cisco switches packed up after a power failure, so i replaced it with a Dlink as a tempory solution.
For some reason the whole network became slow as hell, it takes about 10mins to copy a 3mb file.
Currently i have about 60-70 Pcs excluding the servers on the network.
So all i want to know how i should connect them.
Should i connect all switches to 1 switch or try and daisy chain them anyway ?
I patched my PC's cable into the 1000mb and it runs at 1000 according to windows so it dint step it down to 100.

Who's network is this, DeeVeeDee? Did they hire you to fix all of this?
That guy that used to mod cases. Now I take photos. True story.

Re: 9 24 port switches how do i join them ?
how many DNS servers?
because 2, non-complicit, servers on the same segment tend to result in happytime!
do you have a basic draft of the network topology?.. this is not something you simply slap together, unless that's your "thing"...

DAE_JA_VOO My network or well the companies but i manage it. Its been running for years , actually ive been here for 6 years now and not once did i have to bother
about the network, its all been running well. and this network was created in 2000 so respect to these cisco switches! or shall i say b!tches
I genraly dont change things to prevent issues like this.
There is one DNS locally which has a few zones pointing to other, but i dont think its related to what you asked ?
I have a diagram but i cant upload to imageshack because of our proxy it keeps failing.
But its not in detail.
I quickly colour coded the the cables with tags, all of the patch cables are grey but the cables running from switch to switch is red.
As far as i can see all of the switches runs into 1 switch.
I dont understand why there is a problem i litrally removed the cisco and replaced it with the dlink.
Maybe the faulty cisco had some configuration on it and now that i connected a standard switch to it the network is clashing ???
Or i have messed it up by mixing the wires
