The head of research for security firm IOActive Labs, Barnaby Jack, will be demonstrating a flaw in the design of some ATM machines in the States that could potentially allow hackers to ‘jackpot’ the machines. This will reportedly be happening next month at the Black Hat security conference in Las Vegas, on 28 July

Re: U.S. security expert to expose ATM machine flaws
Someone once told me a long time ago that the Satellite/Wireless signal could be intercepted. Obviously a laptop, whatever software running on it and the necessary hardware to pick-up the frequency. Obviously your account balance is not stored on your card, but on the banks servers somewhere. So one just needs to intercept and change that info before it gets to the ATM.
I don't know, didn't pay much attention to it at the time.
