Gautrain - a threat to taxies ?

Post by DeeVeeDee »

Do you think the gautrain(s) will be a threat to taxi drivers ?
Therer's 24 of them.

From what i have seen on the tv its going to be pretty cheap.
And the amount of fuel and carbon it saves is pretty impressive.

I have a feeling taxi drivers will strike and damage the trains when ever they don't get their way again like the have done in the past with buses.

No, they target different markets. Gautrain is targeting those who use the N1 as their commute; it's to try and get the more affluent off the roads - whereas, your minibus taxi is targeting those who have no other choice.

Of course, the taxi operators will likely see things differently.

frankly the less taxis, the better. They are worse than Tuk-Tuks.

i find the reason for this thread offensive.. not the thread or OP, but what it speaks to...

in any civilised country, any group of individuals who habitually gunned down innocent bystanders in an effort to further their business interests would be on the receiving end of a prison sentence... not an open invitation to the negotiating table...

i find it particularly galling that the phrase "taxi violence" is used in place of "terrorism"...

i say complicated-pictogram them...

like won-won, i doubt the service will have that much of an impact...
