Hey, guys.
Long story short, a client's PC stopped working while in our shop and we're trying to get it to work.
It started out as XP refusing to boot (it showed the boot screen, then a black screen with nothing on it).
However, it booted into Safemode perfectly.
So I did a System Restore. Same problem.
THen I tried a Repair install (XP Home) and it started off fine, but still gave me the black screen at boot.
Now, whenever we try to install XP on the drive, it keeps giving us blue screens and STOP errors. We even pulled the drive out and put it in a completely different machine (and XP setup still BSOD'd).
The odd thing is, though, is that I can still access all the files on the HDD. I've booted into a working Windows and all the files on the HDD is intact and can open them etc.
We need to get this machine running. Any suggestions?

You should thank the stars above that you can still access the files, copy them asap, and replace the drive...

run cmd and enter sfc.exe follow the instructions.
You can copy the files off so do so. Ask the guy to tell you what files he needs, back those up and format reinstall. I've never ever got the repair or restore to work.
otherwise, I am with jamin and Ryan, new hdd.
I'm still amazed how many people play with repairs and restores. 9/10 times proper backups and a format reinstall is faster.

New hard drive-if it fails again youll just run into the same issues but with one pissed off client. Because it has failed once it´s chances of failing again are high.
How much is a new hard drive compared to the cost of the clients data?
