This is cool.

I've heard of it. What's it like Azriel? How's performance as opposed to explorer? Is it a shell like LiteStep? gonna check it out now.

The problem is, people are going to lose working time, playing with this. I mean, throwing files around, folding up documents, making piles, pushing over piles... sounds fun.

Reminds me of NeoPlanet.

Wonder what ever happend to that, was a good idee just the fact that both hardware and software wasn't upto scratch back then.

This actually looks good! :-) SphereXP just looks like one really bad implementation of what Vista is accomplishing properly.

Is there a Beta of this program out yet?

SphereXP is old news, been out for ages. I downloaded the new version last night when i found a thread JUST like this on another forum. I used SphereXP years ago, and it sucked. Used a new one last night again, it still sucked. :(

Thread revival FTW.

Anyone else here playing with the Beta? Bumptop sent me the beta a few days ago. Somehow i'm not as amped on the idea as i was a few years ago. they're implementing the idea perfectly, but it just feels like my desktop is messy now :|

can someone tell me why I would need this on my PC?

any good reason will do.

"Looks cool" is not a good reason.

It's supposed to be a more functional and "realistic" way of organising your desktop, and i can actually see how they meant that. They've designed this very well, and it IS like a real "desk", which is nice.

On the other hand, a real desk is messy, and this is unnecessary IMO.

Granted, i'm having fun with it. I'll probably be sick of it in a few days though.

My real desk is in such a mess that I'm quite sure this app will result in chaos on my PC.

sooo..what you are saying is that there is no good reason to have this? I agree.

Well, i'm not saying there's no good reason, no. If you're a windows user, and WANT icons on your desktop, then it could be pretty useful.

A small walkthrough. My desktop:

Image

I've piled my icons up in groups of files/folders that are somehow related, like so:

Image

I can then take a pile and flare it out to display it's contents:

Image

Instead of flaring, you can also just make the files form a grid formation:

Image

Creating groups of files is pretty simple too. Take a bunch of random files:

Image

And draw a line around them:

Image

Once you close the line, a context menu pops up with some options:

Image

You can also flip through files in a book/magazine manner:

Image

You can also enlarge or shrink specific files, or groups of files. I enlarged a photo of myself:

Image

And then you can even pin stuff up on the wall:

Image

So far it seems pretty cool. I can feel that it's a beta, but it's still pretty cool.

Just thought I'd mention - Google has just acquired Bumptop. My first idea is that it's for Chrome OS, but that just doesn't sound right...

It'll probably go towards a tablet they release.
