Re: BumpTop 3D Desktop prototype
Thread revival FTW.
Anyone else here playing with the Beta? Bumptop sent me the beta a few days ago. Somehow i'm not as amped on the idea as i was a few years ago. they're implementing the idea perfectly, but it just feels like my desktop is messy now

Re: BumpTop 3D Desktop prototype
can someone tell me why I would need this on my PC?
any good reason will do.
"Looks cool" is not a good reason.

Re: BumpTop 3D Desktop prototype
It's supposed to be a more functional and "realistic" way of organising your desktop, and i can actually see how they meant that. They've designed this very well, and it IS like a real "desk", which is nice.
On the other hand, a real desk is messy, and this is unnecessary IMO.
Granted, i'm having fun with it. I'll probably be sick of it in a few days though.

My real desk is in such a mess that I'm quite sure this app will result in chaos on my PC.

sooo..what you are saying is that there is no good reason to have this? I agree.DAE_JA_VOO wrote:It's supposed to be a more functional and "realistic" way of organising your desktop, and i can actually see how they meant that. Re: BumpTop 3D Desktop prototype
Well, i'm not saying there's no good reason, no. If you're a windows user, and WANT icons on your desktop, then it could be pretty useful.
A small walkthrough. My desktop:
I've piled my icons up in groups of files/folders that are somehow related, like so:
I can then take a pile and flare it out to display it's contents:
Instead of flaring, you can also just make the files form a grid formation:
Creating groups of files is pretty simple too. Take a bunch of random files:
And draw a line around them:
Once you close the line, a context menu pops up with some options:
You can also flip through files in a book/magazine manner:
You can also enlarge or shrink specific files, or groups of files. I enlarged a photo of myself:
And then you can even pin stuff up on the wall:
So far it seems pretty cool. I can feel that it's a beta, but it's still pretty cool.

Re: BumpTop 3D Desktop prototype
Just thought I'd mention - Google has just acquired Bumptop. My first idea is that it's for Chrome OS, but that just doesn't sound right...
It'll probably go towards a tablet they release.
