Make an official custom rig page?

Post by Bazatt »

I've noticed that alot of people are posting custom rig ideas. Why don't we make a page for all the best parts for under R4000, R5000, R6000 etc. or have the best gfx card for R1000, R2000 etc or both. As an example I'll use the R9000 rig I want to build as an example.

This way there would be a sort of guideline for people to follow. You could even split it into The Official Intel Custom Rigs Page and The Official AMD Custom Rigs Page.
Any comments or ideas?

Glad to see you've noticed a lot of people posting their custom rig ideas and queries. I can promise you that an Official thread as you suggest will do nothing to stop people creating their own threads. It's an interesting idea, but it won't work. Sorry.

I somehow don't see Stuart wanting to be associated with either. Though he already is a Grammar Nazi...

It wouldn't irritate me. The idea has some merit. It would just create more work for the mods merging every second thread with the Official one

Yeah I see. Maybe just the guide then. It would help people choose a good basic plan first before they make there own post. I'm sure writing up 10 setups wont take too long.

The problem is that that list goes out of date fairly quickly, so unless someone can write some code that updates the prices, it will become a pain to maintain, i think :?:

I could check prices weekly if someone found the original links for me. Still then if someone has a better part/price then they just PM the moderator or post it on there. Maybe get a group of people who are interested and assign tasks.

If you want to give it a bash, go mad. You can edit your first post as often as you like. ;)

What he said.

There is a thread somewhere of reputable retailers which would be a good start.

I suggest you provide a link to a solid review of most of the parts. This gives motivation to spend money on something decent. :)

Re: Make an official custom rig page?

I think this is a good idea. I have been wanting to upgrade my pc for frickin ages...and just when Im about to...something comes up (dog off to vet, something for the baby). So I have alone started like 2/3 threads about what do you think of this new rig. So I think this could work, as I am yet again ready to upgrade...but since my last enquiry, much has changed hardware wise...and I finding myself researching yet AGAIN!

A thread like this is awesome in theory...dunno if it will work...but think it should be given a chance. Also...dont forget rigs with AMD...as I see only Intel...

As promised, here is a R6000 upgrade rig I will be getting in the next month. Its minus the GFX card, as I will use my 8800GT for now (I still have a heap of oldish games I need to get through before I buy the latest games out there and upgrade to Crossfire - as below gfx upgrade).

AMD RIG UPGRADE - NO GFX CARD
AMD Phenom II X4 965, 8MB, AM2+, 3.4GHZ L2 Cache Quad Core --- PCINT --- R1,788.00
Asus M4A77TD PRO --- PCINT --- R924.00
2 x 2GB DDRIII-1333 Generic RAM --- PCINT --- R1,060.00
CoolerMaster CM690 --- REBELTECH --- R772.17
CoolerMaster Extreme Power 650W PSU --- REBELTECH --- R844.67
1TB-7200RPM 32MB Cache SATA II (Seagate .12 Series) --- PCINT --- R785.00
Chaintech 8800GT OC (to be replaced in next few months) --- CURRENT
TOTAL: R6,173.84

GFX UPGRADE - CROSSFIRE - UPCOMING
2 X Club 3D Radeon HD 4850 1GB - 256-bit, 625MHz Clock --- REBELTECH --- R2,404.00

Hope this helps someone?
