They seem to be on a Patch --> Downtime --> Patch --> More Downtime --> Patch schedule...

Hoping to get some serious playtime in today though... Need to get to Captain now... Lt. Comm is getting boring...

It has it's moments... IMO... Depends how much you let yourself get into the game and the ST universe.... Basically... depends if you allow yourself to become a "Trekky"... hehehehe

I wonder how much cap the update will eat.

Knowing you (as little as I do), I'd think that the frequent updates would irritate the socks off of you.

Hahahah! How frequent are they? And how big are they?

Updates aside, how's the game?

Well Vince doesn't know Star Trek at all and he is enjoying the game. MR. Norris and I both love Star Trek so it was easy for us to get into.

Dae, I can come by your place and give you the files then one of the guys (not me because my press account does not allow me to) can give you a 5 day trial invite so you can decide for yourself if its your kind of MMO.

About every second to third day so far. They vary in size, but you'll probably end up downloading 25-50MB at a time.

The game is hit and miss, it has its moments where it really feels rewarding and in some cases it has managed to capture that "trekkie" feeling quite well. But the game is let down by the constant patching and incessant crashes, though the constant patching is helping with this.

In other news I finally ranked up and I am now LC1. I went for an Escort ship, it has weak shields, but man is it nimble and does it pack a punch! :) My client is busy downloading the prepatch and it's currently on 42%. :D

You must remember that you're coming from playing other MMO's that have really been going for years. STO just came out of beta. Patching isn't an issue anymore with cap being as cheap as it is. I see them as blessings actually. Blessings of more bugs being fixed! So the only inconvenience you would have is having to wait for it to update.

The crash bugs really grated my naartjie in the beginning and I've had to drop a few missions because of that.

The only real gripe I have today with the game is I seem to not be able to find any more missions. I've just ranked up to Commander, done one epic mission. Now all the mission folks have for me is patrols :/

Any tips on getting missions?

I didnt have any trouble with missions. There always was one available except when I was about 3/4 RA2. then just did 2 explore missions and was RA3. Did all my mission then and was RA5 in one night.

On the pre-patch. Downloaded it. Then it started again and last night again. I stopped it the 2nd and 3rd times as I am already out 2.1gig (only pre-patch download) and only have 850 mb left on my monthly 5 gig.

It really bugs me that I cant find missions. I only seem to have the patrolling ones left. So I think I'll find star bases and hopefully people there that'll send some my way..

Notice B, I did say that the constant patching is more of a blessing. What's irked me now is that the other night I was up to 42% on that prepatch, but I stopped it and now it's gone back down to 0% downloaded. WTF?

A select few on this forum would know B is me :P Saying that, my prepatch update is constantly interrupted and resets. Yet my prepatch folder is over 1.5 Gigs...

Hi all

I have downloaded the pre-patch 4 times. 1st time download completed. 2nd time when I log out of the game it started again and I stopped it. 3rd time I didn't see it started and was around 20% when I stopped it. My pre patch folder stayed empty as apparently the launcher delete the file every time it started the download. One of the dev said the will look into it and seems like it was fixed. On saturday I started it for the 4th time. I started at 5pm and it downlaoded until 1am. The pre patch file is 1.64 gig. It is still there as I check every time I log on. I made a copy anyway and saved it. The actual download is 1074mb. I lost a bit over 3gig with this pre-patch.

My prepatch folder grew every time it started downloading. Once it reached 1.57 Gigs (and after many a restart) it stopped downloading. I think the percentage bar is inaccurate thats all.

Hi

Did the new Big Dig fleet action last night. Its kinda long and in the beginning no one knew what to do but was lots of fun when people started talking to each other. Joined a group and the five of us basically cleared everything on our own. Drops is also good, got lots of white lvl IX and X for BO's and 1 green lvl X shield. When I sold all the stuff I didnt use made almost 25k. Ill put 20k in the fleetbank when Im on again.

It seems I'm not the only one who has run out of missions :P Only one of the mission people seems to have decent ones for me. Very sad. I've tried the crystaline countless times and its always a waste of time :(

game news hq wrote:Has Star Trek Online really lost so many of its launch players in the past three months to warrant a Winback Weekend? It seems a bit early to me, but then I've not had much time to play since the first month myself. Perhaps I'm a trendsetter. Perhaps players were maxing out their rank too quickly and getting bored. Either way, this weekend old players are invited to log back in and see what they've missed in the 5-10 weeks since they stopped playing.

I must say, I haven't played in a few weeks. The constant updates and dropped connections were getting a bit much. I should log in again sometime.
