Boost WiFi Signal (Help)
Boost WiFi Signal (Help)
Ok guys
Here is my WiFi question
I’m living in my parents’ house, and in my brothers room is a Telkom MEGA Router WiFi router.
Next month I’m moving out, say about 3houses down the street to my own place.
I want to sponge of their WiFi coz nobody uses it except me at the moment.
What do I need to extend/boost the WiFi signal
What are the pro/ cons of this kind of setup and the price of the kit ?(i need it to be cheap) and i want signal in all weather conditions

Dlink DWL2100AP (Does signal repeating of your wireless) +/- R650 comes with a detachable antenna utilizing a reverse SMA connector
By simply attaching a D-Link wireless antenna, you can increase the wireless range - depending on LOS (Line of Sight) these range between R300 and R2k
I would recommend (my setup uses this:AirLive WAE-140PA 14dBi Outdoor Patch Antenna) R359.00
The antenna comes with 20cm pigtail cable with female N-Type connector to connect with outdoor AP. To connect with indoor AP's reversed-SMA connector, a RG316-SNF adapter cable and RG213-SNN cable is required.

Re: Boost WiFi Signal (Help)
It should have a web interface, me thinks!
Should also get its juice via power over Ethernet
Polarity is important too.

Re: Boost WiFi Signal (Help)
Not sure , about that ....i don’t think the Telkom Mega 100WR routers have Power over Ethernet .
KoKo did u not work for a company that specialized in wireless
And if my memory serves me correct you now have your own business
So here is an opportunity for u to make some money out of me

Re: Boost WiFi Signal (Help)
Could you not get a second network card for the computer nearest the Mega Router. Bridge the connections or share it whatever.
Get a second AP to mount on the roof, that will connect via Ethernet and get its power through Ethernet aswel.
Log into the AP and do your configurations etc
At your house configure your own AP and connect it to your computer.
As for that wireless company, job was done and contract ended. Many moons ago, luckily. Hated those Screamer people

Re: Boost WiFi Signal (Help)
There is no power necessary, as it is a external antenna only - you need to buy the right length RG316-SNF and SG213-SNN required for longer distance(>30cm)
with indoor AP, it just screw onto the current place where your Mega router has a current antenna (like a pigtail)
