Encoding headache

Post by Riddick_Jhb »

Hey all,

Over the holidays i've been fooling around with encoding programmes and I have been struggling to find a nice app that gives me decent quality vids without taking forever.

Im not sure if the topic is taboo or not but i'd like to know what you guys use to encode stuff.

I'll apreciate your help.

I like DVDx

Encoding can only go as fast as your system will allow it to... so i doubt any one app will be noticably quicker than ony other one at encoding.
If you want to encode faster, get a faster rig.

Real men use AutoGK and wait four days to encode a file. I have a calculator dedicated to the task. Its still busy trying to encode Jurassic Park, two years running and its 50% done.

Jammin, i downloaded the latest program and where you indicated i only have 3 options under the avi (divx) window. Microsoft video, Intel IYUV codec and Cinepak Codec By Radius. None which i find helpful.

doo_much you are pushing me to use language not appropriate for these forums, I might have to unleash the great Ron2k on you.

But seriously, Riddick_JHB, you have to live with the fact that encoding video files takes a lot of time. An older quad core like the QX6700 with 4gigs of RAM will take about 2-3 hours to do a 2 hour file. I would suggest that now that I have given you this information and Jamin has suggested a decent program that you drop the subject because we all know what you want to do with this information. Discussion of methods of piracy is not permitted on these forums.

My intention is too encode my own dvds so that i can put them on a hd and play through my tv and not be stuck sitting at the pc. I'm not interested in seeding etc if that is your concern.

I use Avidemux, to transcode video. It gives a lot of options and has some neat filters for video effects, even cropping and resizing etc. Very nice app to take your old family VHS tapes and putting them on DVD, if you've got something to stream it to your pc.
