Hey guys, would u say the performance difference for this game between having 2 gigs and 3 gigs of RAM is substantial? Im about to order this game and wondering if i should get an extra gig. I know the recommended specs says 3 gigs for vista (which im currently using), but Id like to know ur personal experiences?

thanks

Windows XP I used 2gb ram and my system only took 300mb of it for drivers ect. Setting game detail extra high I had to eventually upgrade to 4gb. Windows 7 uses 1.2gb memory for its system files ect.

Going from 2gb to 3gb is a waste. You will loose your duel channel. Get 4gb. It lasts. I think the max memory usage I had so far was 3.2gb or something.

Back to the dragon age thing I finally got my chance at Lileana  but at that point in the game it paled into what was going on around me. The character interactions in the game still amazes me. I cant say I have ever played a game with such depth in interaction between npcs. Whenever you do something it affects your party members. They in turn react to how your other party members react. Its not in a big way but its definitely noticeable.

One part that did stand out is the part after the werewolves and Lileana sings the elves song of hope. The way the other characters watches her and the "emotions" of how they feel is really something to see. Many games claim your actions effects the game but Dragon age is the first one that feels that it has far reaching impact and implications.

Also something that might interest those with a disc copy. If you use the ea download manager and activate the game using your cd key you will be able to download a digital version. Pretty neat feature. Obvisouly won't do it now since I have a disc version but in the future it would be good to be able to use the digital version instead of the disc one to play.

i should add that this game has one little niggle for me... i get it had to be simplified for the console folk, but i'm really missing the dual-class fun of NWN/NWN2... as well as effective spellcasters.. although i'm having fun combining spell effects, not many would equate to the inherent joy in releasing hellball...

How much can you alter the ending?
Spoiler: (show)
Morrigan leave before the march to Denerim but offers you a way out from not dying. So depending how you got to it it might have different ways but how much will it change the ending?

A) Let's say you are male and have Alister with you she proposes either you or Alister have sex with her and the child would absorb the darkspawn saving the grey warden.
If that he does the killing blow will he be saved still?
If you had sex and he kills will he still be saved?
If he had sex but you do the killing blow what will happen?

B) Let's say your female could you have sex with him and divert that entire morrigan part onto you?

C) Alister could also be king so if you would take that into account what would happen if he and Logains daughter married?

Does the game have multiple endings or simply 1 with story boxes?

A) Anyone of the two can do the killing blow and survive if you had the ritual.

B) No but you can convince him or loghain, depending who you chose to sleep with morrigan. For alistair you have to have hardened him through his side quest.

C) Allistair can rule allone, anora can rule alone. You can get alistair to marry anora. You can also marry anora if you are a human noble male. You can also marry alistair and become queen if you are a human noble female.

There are different endings and the ending tells you different things on what action you take.

So I got this game on Wednesday [at long last], and started a mage. I am now level 9 and loving it, BUT I still have basically the same gear I started with? Is this normal? I find some swords, heavy armor, etc. but nothing that is of use to a mage? I need a new staff, seriously  :P

Also, at the moment I don't have anyone proficient at opening locks - will this have a big impact on the loot I can find?

the loot that is dropped or sold is dependant on your level. To prove it you can use that power leveling trick. The vendor will sell armor closer to your level the higher you are. I however think that there is a problem in that power leveling trick as I dont have to many skill points to spend once I get my characters.

*edit* locked chests contain codex but I didnt really find anything overly special in chests. If its a quest item that you need it will have a key to open it.

That's because the moment you meet a new companion the game auto levels them. To overcome this problem you can use some of the mods to either disable this or use a respec mod.

@Pienkie: You can get a rogue companion at lothering who can open locks.

I mean I get the feeling that you dont get all the talents or skills to assign. Almost as if you only get 1/2 the skills.

You don't. You can't pick all the talents since the game doesn't allow you to level far enough for that. There is mod that unlocks all thought. This force you to make proper decision as to how you want to build your character, if by the end you got all skills/talents you could whatever you wanted with no penalty.

Even if you collect all those books you will still not have enough skill points to get all the skills. Only way is through mods unless they allow you to level further with a new expansion/dlc.

I've been playing DA:O for the last 3 days now, after finally getting around to buying it

I'm addicted. One of my favourite RPGs I've played in a long time. Although anyone else notice that some music was re-used from Mass Effect? and the music seems very much inspired by The Witcher - which is a good thing of course.

I'm a Human Mage / Arcane Warrior. Thus far anyway.

I have kinda started taking the chickens way out... so to speak... At every decision that I think is a major one, I save it as a new save, so should I not like the result, I can always go back and 'change my mind'... :P

Too bad that the major decisions you make takes about 30minutes of cut scene.
