i'm going to go out on a limb and guess that some sort of hiccup in grub is resulting in the older kernel being picked at boot... could be grub isn't being repaired on an upgrade, but is fine on a clean install...

looks like this may be the case...

Re: Ubuntu 9.10!
kk. so you have tried 9.1? and its fine? because despite Dae's sentiments I was thinking of trying out a Linux install... just to see what happens. This little article and your statement about n00bs being the only ones having issues worries me a bit.rustypup wrote:i'm going to go out on a limb and guess that some sort of hiccup in grub is resulting in the older kernel being picked at boot... could be grub isn't being repaired on an upgrade, but is fine on a clean install...

Re: Ubuntu 9.10!
i haven't used it personally, but i have seen it installed without hiccup on 3 machines...
clean installs are going through fine, it's the upgraders who are being tripped up - mostly because they don't follow the basics and prepare.. part of the preparation being checking the release notes, checking the support notes and especially checking the known issues list...
as you're not upgrading, you should be more than happy...
