Going rate for domain names
Hi
I know pricing on domain names are helluva variable, but I need some guidelines as to what to offer the current owner of a domain I'd like to have.
I have a .co.za domain registered (http://www.mydomainname.co.za). True to form, some good (good = sneaky) businessman registered the .com equivalent (http://www.mydomainname.com). I'd like to buy this domain from him, and when asked if it's for sale, he replied :
"What do you offer?"
Hence my dilemma.
No website is hosted on the domain (just one of those search pages). Anyone have an idea?

I wouldn't want to suggest a price, but how serious are you about getting the .com domain as well? If this is a businessman, and he's registered that domain name but is not using it, I strongly suspect that he's going to want an astronomical price for it.

About 7/10.Stuart wrote:but how serious are you about getting the .com domain
It's for a client, so I'll just pass the cost on to them.

Re: Going rate for domain names
i actually have the same problem.
I have an idea for a website but the domain that I want is currently held by another person who is doing nothing with the site.
That person is refusing to sell it to me.

What I type has nothing to do with the people that employ me.
Re: Going rate for domain names
In all honesty, I'd ask your client about a budget. Ask what they're willing to spend--absolute max--on the domain name and then take that to the current owner to see if he's interested. Don't get caught in a bid war ... that's going to be the surest way of getting yourself ripped off.

So offer the guy $100 and see what he says.

I've got to agree, if he complains it's too low, tell him he should've made an offer.Stuart wrote:So offer the guy $100 and see what he says.
