vpn into dynamic IP

Post by geraldhum »

Hi Guys

I called my isp regarding connecting to my home pc from work. To get a static IP is to expensive for me at the moment, so the technical guy said i can setup Dyndns. Anyone have any experince on connecting to a dynmaic IP. I searched google and came up with dyndns.com but then i have to have a server for it to work or what can i do?

Regards
Gerald

Have a look at http://www.no-ip.com/

They have a small app you install on your pc that will do the updating. No need for a server.

Dyndns have a similar app if i recall correctly. Routers tend to spam updates and get your account locked (speaking from experience).

geraldhum, Rather run an app like Logmein. You would have to do some port forwarding to a computer otherwise. And never liked the security problems of that.

LogMeIn ftw- I use it to manage my own pc from work- as well as maintain my family's pc's back home in SA.

Works like a charm. LogMeIn.com

Hi Guys

I am playing arround with VPN, I have setup a dyndns account and my router is automaicly updating to dyndns all working good :) I can connect to my office router from my house now and i have setup a pc at the office to allow incoming connections using microsost vpn. ALso setup port 1723 on my router to be forwared to my vpn server, so that is all correct, but i cannot connect using PPTP connection from my home pc. All i get is connecting to "MyOfficeIP" What am i doing wrong? is there a setting on my office router that i never done.
