Project Dark Tranquility (Update 06-09-09)
Re: Project Andromeda (Update 07-01-09) Major update
I think that case is fugly
I know people who can do the laser cutting etc for you Dave, if you still want to.
For that matter, if anyone needs any form of cutting, bending, shaping etc., I have a contact...

I'm still screwed on space dude, unless i completely modify the structure of the case. that is major and i don't see it working.UrBaN wrote:I think that case is fugly

besides, i still need decent CPU cooling. i over clocked to 2.7 ghz the other night and it over heated.
And besides, i'll mod the Antec into oblivion.
But let me know about your contact. i might use it on this case, if i have some money

Re: Project Andromeda (Update 07-01-09) Major update
*Necro Necro Necro*
I've upgraded my case to an antec Tx1050B though i might swapped out with the other home PC which has a p190. both weigh over 15 KG's.
I also upgraded my board to an Asus Maximus formula.
Andromeda will become my media centre PC. I have this case which still needs to be finished and the g33m mobo and a hdd and a PSU and ram. Need the CPU and TV tuner and graphics adaptor
I am thinking of simply cutting and fitting hex mesh on the sides. it will look nice and clean and be inexpensive. I don't have access to a suitable machine to cut the alu vents i designed. and i think i might die if i learn the price for laser cutting

Re: Project Andromeda (Update 07-01-09) Major update
So, first things first: someone else has already called their mod Andromeda
How about Dark Tranquility? I'm not that big a fan of their music but the name sounds awesome for a media centre.
And its not taken already = bonus
Teaser Pictures tomorrow. This log is also running concurrently on Bit-Tech

Re: Project Dark Tranquility (Update 22-08-09) Teaser
Hmmm
3x Vizo Super Muffles
What could this be for?
Tada
I hate the included fan screws. I always replace them with M5's. but I need to flatter ones.
And now, another teaser of sorts.
Though I still need to see if i can find a blue bar graph

Re: Project Dark Tranquility (Update 22-08-09) Teaser
So, here is my really small update. yesterday proved a little hectic so I only got onto it onto it thursday night and today.
I took a white version of this liteon DVD writer bezel:
Filed and sanded and file and sanded and filed and sanded until the raised portins were completely gone:
sprayed it with several coats of gray and sanded with water paper
Took some red perspex or acrylic I salvaged off something being scrapped at varsity, cut a small piece and filed it to shape:
Filed the bezel to fit the tiny piece of plastic:
and now I am given the bezel more coats of grey paint and sand it to remove some of the scratches
*Looks at his lack of finger prints*
edit: Still working on getting the middle piece flat

Re: Project Dark Tranquility (Update 28-08-09)
Another update and more pics of the DVD drive bezel
Apologies for the poor quality pics-I took these with my cellphone
After sanding to remove high spots:
Assembled:
Getting it flat and smooth took forever.
Tomorrow (later), more sanding and then several coats of gloss black spray paint.
I need finer water paper, I only have 600 Grit.

Re: Project Dark Tranquility (Update 28-08-09)
Couldn't get gloss or satin black paint for some reason
Front bezel completed with matt black and clear laquer:
but I notice a few faint scratches in it which i will have to fix in due course.
Finish is not as good as i wanted but i think thats the matt paint. :grr:
And, until I can find my MX510, I have modded an MS mouse.
(And Yes, Cat fur )

Re: Project Dark Tranquility (Update 06-09-09)
It looks like the suround (framing the optical drive besel) is more of a satin black rather than a matt or glossy. Wanna give it a shot?
A mouse with cat hair? Perhaps you should stay away from genetic modifications ...but I have always loved electric blue. Very nice.

Re: Project Dark Tranquility (Update 06-09-09)
Thanks
Haven't done much work, will do some in the coming weeks. Varsity has been heavy on my time in recent months.
I have screws and other bits to go on and more spraying and cutting to do. It also needs something for feet, hmmm
I got a brand new wireless keyboard and mouse set out of the varsity electrical labs.
We have an arrangement with a cash for goods outlet where anything broken gets sent to the labs for us students to use for our own devices, because they for what ever reason, don't repair stuff, they give the customers something else or a refund. o_O
Turns out there was a loose connection in it so i fixed that and now it works brilliantly
maybe I'll mod it too
edit:
Better pictures may follow when i get my new camera and a tripod for it

I love electric blue, in fact most metallic colours. they just require way to much prep
