PTAWUG Highsite install done this weekend in Centurion in Heuweloord.
The sector antennas on top is for providing coverage for users to connect to. The grids lower down is for point to point backbone links to Wierda Mall highsite (7km) and The Reeds highsite (4km). These are two short backbone links, as the Heuweloord highsite is being installed as a alternative site in an area that's already covered, to take some load off the current sites.
In the box at the bottom is a PC motherboard and PSU and a Routerboard 14 PCI to mini-pci riser card containing 4 Mikrotik mini-pci radios that's connected to the antennas by pigtails and LMR400 co-ax cable.
The optimal capacity of the site is about 20 users, after which the sectors and radios take too much strain from all the users and speeds start to drop.
The guys putting up the site are normal wug users, using their spare time to expand and build the wug and so others can connect.
445 users connected, CSS and other games are going lekker. Standard PTAWUG kit is going for about R2000 at the suppliers.

Re: Practical outdoor networking (PTAWUG)
The Heuweloord install went smooth on saturday , we all had a lot of fun and learned a lot , the best thing about PTAWUG is the willingness by all people to assist in the install without any financial gain for themself. Thank you to all that helped . Join PTAWUG today you will not be dissapointed.
