looks okayish but i would get maybe a litle more ram eg 4gb because you will see an improvement on speed (correct me if im wrong)STIR wrote:Ja, I know....another one but your advice will be appreciated

also im not sure on the gpus power rating but you might want to get something like 550w

Re: Help build a mid range pc
4850 has a 500W minimum if i remember correctly.
4 gigs of ram is plenty for a 32bit OS which is what I assume you'll put on
Mobo is a P35 I think, little on the dated side but should be fine.

Re: Help build a mid range pc
STIR, what os are you going to use? like prime says 4gb is plenty but on a 32bit os you only pick up 3.5gb but it still gives the pc a boost!

Re: Help build a mid range pc
I would honestly replace the P5K with a Biostar Tpower I45 @ R1500.
I know you want to keep the price under 8K but it's R500 more for the dogs gonads and it will out pace the P5K really easily.

Re: Help build a mid range pc
The only difference between the p45 and p35 is more flexibility for the ram speed and processor options.
Re: Help build a mid range pc
The HD4850 is listed as needing at least a 450W PSU. (Sapphire), however, not all 470W PSUs are equal.
What is really important for systems is the 12V rail/s. Actual power consumption tests on a system similar to yours idicate that the peak power draw for your system is likely to be around 14A (Running Prime95+Furmark) (Link).
Your supply you listed has two rails at 14A and 15A (GE-P470A). Now while the above mentioned 14A load would likey be spread over the two rails if you get the cabling correct, I don't know how you tell which cable runs off which rail on a PSU. So I would be wary of possibly running so close to the limit.
I might recommend the cooler master eXtreme Power Plus 460W (link), which has two rails at 18A.
You would probably be fine with that PSU, because more general workloads (3DMark'06) yieled loads of closer to 12A at peak, but I think you could find the cooler master around the same price.
Otherwise, nice choices, I'm sure you won't be disapointed.

Re: Help build a mid range pc
Thank you all for your input
Prime and djwez: I will be installing win xp pro 32bit and will be putting two sticks of 2 gb ram.
TheComet: I was especially unsure of the power supply so will take your advice and go for the Coolermaster RS-460-PCAR eXtreme power plus 460w at R518.54
Frozenfireside: I dont plan on any overclocking – would you still consider the change in mobo worthwhile?
Thanks again

Re: Help build a mid range pc
+1 on the 4870 and the bigger PSU. 2Gig ram should be ok for XP. If I were you, I'd consider buying from PCInt. You can for instance get an E8200 for the same price as you are paying for the E7500.

Re: Help build a mid range pc
Yeah, you have to visit the product web pages and match up the model numbers of the products in question. A bit extra work, but worth it for the savings IMO. I have never actually shopped from them personally, though I know quite a few other members have done so successfully. Were you looking at something in particular?Puento wrote:That shop PCInt, how do you shop from it??? i cant view a products information?
