We take another look at Dragon Age: Origins, this time focusing our attention on the intricacies of the combat system and whether or not spell combos have any place in an epic fantasy RPG. Check out our thoughts on the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate within!

now that sounds like fun... for second there i thought they were hammering on about the NWN-type combo, which was essentially just a skill which allowed multiple spells to be stacked and cast back-to-back.. if they pull it off, it would add a new twist to the RPG experience... :D

The AI system for companions and the spell combo's are going to be very interesting. Sounds like they really put effort into those two areas of combat.

Ok guys got some info on the release date for SA. I wanted to find out whether we would be getting the two special in game items that some stores are offering for pre orders in the US, so I asked paul at btgames about this.

What did I find out from him is that his info is that the release date is 13 October, we are also getting the collectors and normal editions. Said it should be up on their site by the end of today.

Hopefully that release date is true, most of the international sites are going with 3 November though and BW hasn't released an official release date.

Here's the info on the special items that are being offered on pre orders in the US.http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product ... t_id=72850

Depending on the game I usually go for collectors editions. They must atleast include the following:
Art Book
Music cd/dvd
making of dvd
Artwork posters
Faction banners
World map on cloth/leather
Games related to the series

Yeah I know its a lot but its how I operate :P
My Steam Screenshots

Both CE and normal edition is on the BT games site now. I know its preorder and prices are subject to changes but R359 isn't bad for the CE and R315 for the normal one. Lets hope it stays like that.

I have preordered the CE.

Dragon Age: Origins Interview
At a recent Electronic Arts showcase we got a chance to sit down with Mike Laidlaw, the lead designer of Dragon Age: Origins who should, under no circumstances be confused with Marc Laidlaw of Valve. Trust us, we nearly made that mistake.

While everyone else was playing the latest build of the game in the specially set-up presentation room, we sat down with Mike in a pair of huge wooden thrones, the floor around us littered with fake skulls and PC cables. It was so atmospheric we were tempted to demand a glass of mead from a nearby wench, but we doubted the command would go down well with whichever fellow journalist we barked at.

Instead, we thought it best to just get on with the interview...

Some info on the village of redcliffe. Some may remember it from one of the gameplay videos, won't say more since it might be considered a spoiler to some.

Box art revealed. This is from the US eastore, it was uploaded to a different site by some of the bioware US forum guys so that others can also see. If you try and access the us ea store it will redirect you to SA eastore and the sa version doesn't even have the game listed yet.

I really like the Dragon logo.

More previews.
It looks like these Bioware guys are on the ball to me. That Dragon Age trailer with the heavy metal music and the blood all over the place is just a gambit to get the dumbs to buy the game. At it’s heart, it’s clear Dragon Age: Origins is going to be a thoughtful RPG in the tradition of Baldur’s Gate. God bless you boys at Bioware and keep ‘em coming.

The most interesting thing about the IGN article was the comments on the visuals of the pc version compared to the xbox 360 version. They seem to think the pc has got quite an advantage. We already know the pc gets the toolset and mods and the consoles don't. Also learned the pc version has 10 quick keys compared to the xbox 360 having only 6. So far it seems that the version to get if you are undecided will be the pc version. Not trying to turn this into a pc vs console debate just merely mention things that I have learned and notice this week which may help those thinking about what version they will get, obviously things can change especially for the console version by October.

BioWare also showed off the Xbox 360 verison of the game for the first time (all the demos to this point have been running on the PC). Obviously, the interface has been tweaked to work with the Xbox 360 controller, but the big news here are the visuals. If you want the best looking version, stick with the PC, as the Xbox 360 version just lacked the razor crisp high-res textures and the sophisticated lighting of the PC game. We're not sure what the PS3 version looks like, as it's still unseen at this point.

Some info on system requirements.
Posted 06/05/09 10:20 (GMT) by dbankier

Some quotes from Ray and Greg on system specs:

- will be revealed on the website 'shortly'
- pretty modest, won't require a top-end pc
- scaleable, designed from the ground up to run well on systems that are several years old, but also to take advantage of new hardware too

Videos added for both Alistair and Sten. Also just to let everyone know all the npc's listed on the page aren't all those in the game. There's actually 12 in the game but only 8 are listed on the home page. According to the developers they want to keep those 4 as a surprise in the game.

New Morrigan video. I love the interaction between her and Alistair, it reminds very much of some of the party banter in BG.

Here's a direct link:http://na.llnet.bioware.cdn.ea.com/u/f/ ... rrigan.flv

Should also be appearing on her character page but for some (me included its not working):http://dragonage.bioware.com/character_morrigan.html

New Creature info.BW are reavealing the high Dragon for this week. Screenshots and a video to follow later in the week.
They say that dragons once ruled the skies of Thedas. The greatest of these were the Old Gods, beings thought to have tricked mankind into turning away from the Maker, and who were imprisoned beneath the earth for their deceit. Their children were the winged beasts worshipped by the magisters of the Tevinter Imperium; images of dragons adorned every statue across the land. In more recent ages, Nevarran dragon hunters supposedly brought the species to extinction, harvesting them for their bones, which absorb enchantment like no known metal. But at the end of the Blessed Age, a high dragon emerged in the Frostbacks and began a rampage through the highlands. The next Age was named in her honor. Because a high dragon only begins a rampage when she is ready to lay a new clutch of eggs, that sighting will certainly not be the last.
For now here is the concept art.
