Nod32 V.4 Released

Post by Stuart »

charlize ... or one of the other admins ... assuming Firestrm can stop himself spamming threads to death can we PLEEZE have a security solutions sticky? rather than having every second joe ask what av/firewall, etc. is the best? even if we change the title of this thread and sticky it. perhaps even a poll where we can vote ... although that might not work since people might change opinions over time.

anyway, the real reason for my little taboo moment is just to point out, for those who've missed it so far, that nod32 v.4 is out.

Stuart, Is THIS not good enough for you? Otherwise when people would like to ask this question, I see Google is starting to get some publicity. Within a year or so I predict them to even start using Google before coming to PCF.

*EDIT* Thanks for the info though, I'm busy looking for a solution for a new server at the office for Server2003 and I've always rated NOD32 #1 when it comes to servers.

This is why we dont want to make it a sticky... :P

I am all for it just as long as the topic is adhered to and no major spamming takes place. Think of a good name and I am pretty sure we can rename and sticky it. BTW been using v4 for quite some time now...

which is why i said "assuming Firestrm can stop himself spamming threads to death." ;)

and synthia ... :smack: i realise there's a whole "security" section, but have to SEEN how many "which antivirus" and "which firewall" threads are in there?

i only got around to installing v.4 tonight, but i was a little surprised that no one made mention of it yet, since it is such a popular solution around here. although, i guess everyone who uses it (read, half the pcf forumites) would know already, wouldn't they? :?

i think we should come up with a really ingenious thread title ... something like ... "Security Solutions." :P

i was actually going to post this in synthia's thread, but i figured that it wasn't quite the same thing. that being said, it does offer a more comprehensive option. although, let's be face facts, i suppose no matter how it is stickied people are still going to start their own threads, aren't they?

Not really my thread on Cellphone Q&A seems to be working quite well. How about a title "Need an Antivirus/Firewall? Click here!"

BTW We are not talking about the new NOD version... :P

we could name it that ... and expect some n00b to find a keygen or something to some retail solution. but it could work.

oh, right ... everyone, nod32 v.4 is out. try it now ...

one of the nice things about nod is that you don't have to purchase a new license when a new version is released. if you have a license for v.3 it will still work for v.4. nothing new with eset, i know, but it is a feature that has always impressed me.

been using it for a while now, and, to be honest, not all that excited with the jump in footprint, (although there is still a negligible impact on the system during scans).

the inclusion of the "sysinspector" is a dangerous thing given the average PC user's habit of deleting critical components at a whim....

yup.

the ghost of version 3 is still resident in the IP stack... (i was challenged to remove the prior client when downloading :? ).

removal instructions

uninstall/reinstall.

we also had similar issues on remote machines running application gaurds - (outpost, spybot, etc) - be sure to disable these during the install.

finally, never forget that one of the things you get with your license is online support - you paid for it, use it

only if outpost is applying app protection - NOD needs to install components into certain sensitive areas - 'certain' users were running the installer and then choosing "deny" when outpost challenged them to confirm changes...
