Motherboard won't pickup my SATA HDD

Post by geraldhum »

Hi Guys

I had to change my work pc motherboard. The mother boards model number is a p4vma.
I checked the cmos and SAtA is enbaled but once it goes through the post screen the sata 1 and sata 2 says none. What can the problem be? Everything is connected power and sata cable.

Regards
Gerald

I had the same problem with my board.

I resolved it by replacing the motherboard.

Hope this helps.

no, it doesn't. now stop giving stupid answers and help the man. tell him he needs to upgrade to i7 with ddr3 AND a new mobo (with relevant psu, gfx, et al) cos nothing less than that supports sata.

Guys this is a office pc and if i could get my boss to upgrade it i would but these guys don't like spending money. I have all my development code and database backups on this hdd. One of my custermors needed a motherboard urgently that has a comport so i gave him mine and took his. What i will try and do is tell my boss that this hdd is to new for these motherboards and see if he will get me a new one and if he says yes ill also need a new processor and ram:) because my stuff wont work with the new motherboard. Then ill take my old motherboard processer, and ram and use it for my linuxbox at home:)

Hope this works and he listens to me:))

I can't really offer much advice - SATA normally works. Or doesn't.
check in your BIOS -if your SATA is set to RAID, change it to IDE. If it doesn't work then, I'd say the SATA ports or controller are blown.

If lying to your boss to get new hardware doesn't work, what you can try do is check in the BIOS if you have SATA enabled...

Your board uses the VIA chipset IIRC....
You should have a 'VIA OnChip IDE Device' screen in your BIOS configuraton, in there will be a 'OnChip SATA' setting that must be enabled for the board to see SATA drives

Also, congrats to everyone who spammed this guys thread without offering him any real advice.

I did check and the SATA is enabled. I guess there is something wrong with the sata ports. If i cant get a new pc ill have to swop with my IDE homepc hard driver. I'm soooo tired of installing xp all the time:(

I guess you know this already, but the HDD should be jumpered to primary master AFAIK, not cable select.

Also make sure you're using the right connection on your SATA cable, the middle one is for the Slave...

Retaliation for laughing at a stupid comment? No. I would laugh too if my head didn't hurt so much from hitting it on my desk repeatedly. :bootyshake:
