Does Vista improve game performance or does it decrease it

Vista SP1 is supposed to improve FPS over XP but I dunno. I think Vista is just a white elephant at this point. Waiting for Win7 to improve things.

I just think sticking to XP would have been a better solution as I get BSOD so often it's annoying.

Well if you have some nice hardware you wont even notice that much of a difference....

There's no noticeable difference between gaming with the two . There hasn't been any real difference since nvidia and ati finally got their act together and provided decent drivers.

It really depends whether you want to wait for win 7 or if you want dx 10 now or not.

I actually haven't done a comparison. But some older games won't run in vista. Depends what you are playing?

Your mileage may vary...

XP can't do DirectX10, for one thing.

If you run a decent rig, you certainly won't feel a difference.

You can't play games on Vista. You have to download and install Line, which will emulate the Linux environment. Then maybe, with some tinkering, you'll be able to play certain games. But performance will still take a hit, no matter your hardware specs, unfortunately. Unless you play one of the few games native to Windows. :(

Frozenfireside, Check your hardware dude, MY vista was the same as was others I worked on and I too thought it was buggy Vista. So checked everything and turned out to be my brand new 250GB SATA drive. Loaded vista onto my 80GB PATA and it's working 100% so seems like my drive's boot-sector is slightly damaged :( . XP works fine on the HD though so it seems to me Vista is far too sensitive to "failing" hardware.

Dunno. It only restarts with certain programs.
