Norton should be classified as a virus itself. If you're willing to pay for an anti-virus, NOD32 (~R300 per year) is just about the best you can go for.

However, I would just bite the bullet, reformat and reinstall, and take better care of your system next time.

Joester, You can format your system yourself. Its not a complicated thing to do at all
Just make sure all your data is backed up etc :D

Then I'd suggest partitioning your drive in two. One for your OS, and another for your data

^^ Problem with wanting to go legit now (which is the correct and sensible thing to do) is that while you can get the media if you ask around, you'll struggle to get hold of a legitimate CD key unless you know some MSDN subscribers, considering that XP went off the shelves a while ago - that being said, you can still order online through Prophecy or Landmark PC, but I don't know for how much longer.

Access it by right clicking and going explore. Then turn off hide folders and all the other hide things and delete the autorun file in the folder. :D Easy

Its a bit of an annoyance if you gotta do that every time though
Install NOD32, boot into safe mode and run a scan. See if that makes any difference

Its not every folder and A virus scan won't remove that!! It will only remove the virus. I got the virus at varsity on my portable drive. i had to manually kill the autorun file in each folder.

Anti Viruses do not scan for autorun or they would block every second DVD you put in your drive.

Basically, the virus places an EXE file and autorun is lots of folders. when you open the folder, autorun activates the exe which copies itself all over. a virus scan should find the exe. but it probably will ignore the autorun file. you need to find this gem of script and kill it.

I bet you that its a 4 digit code.exe :o
