Okay, installed and running. The installation process was as simple as it usually is, and ALL my hardware is supported straight out of the box. I have yet to install my 8800's drivers, but i'm certain that there won't be a problem.

Getting my two DSL accounts working was also a breeze. I hadn't tried that since Suse 9 (i usually kept my DSL accounts on my router), and it was far easier than i can remember it being.

What's best, is that my monitor is supported without any tweaks. 8.04 had a serious fail moment in that department.

Time to get everything else installed and setup. A screenie for you guys:

I have a Vodaphone 3G debian file which works on Ubuntu without any issues. See my post I made earlier this year here

I am also installing at the moment - but am going the KDE4.1 route ;-)

DAE - its good to hear all your hardware works out the box - My machine is a fairly basic one - I dont expect to have any issues either.

KDE4 is really "pretty" - the start menu has some really cool functionality. General response in the GUI seems to have improved - even with my aged hardware I am running it on. Envy easilly gave me 1680X1050 on my 20" widescreen. Everything works out the box. Will post some screenshots a bit later. Just busy installing FF3, setting up my email etc etc.

So far, I'm impressed by the GUI - very sleek and smooth. Lets hope the stability of 7.10 is in 8.10 as well.

EDIT: Just took a screenshot

If anybody is thinking about running KDE4.1 - DONT.

There are unaddressed bugs in the GUI. I noticed the icons in the system tray are messed up....and some of the lines on Windows overlap. Its a pity cos it is big improvement over KDE3.x

I uninstalled, downloaded and installed Gnome.

After my writer turned my very last CD into a beautiful frisbee (I've posted it on eBay if anyone's interested. BTW it can also double as a coaster), I needed a way to install without a CD. Then I found UNetBootin. This program creates a bootable, installable USB drive. Just what I was looking for. No need to burn a linux distro to disc ever again.

Check it out here http://javel1n.blogspot.com

The first thing I'm noticing about Ibex (anyone else here thought Ibex was a bird?) is that my monitor is running in the correct resolution AND refresh rate. Things feel snappy. I don't like the fact that I have to sudo to use pon now :( Everything else works. Even has settings for my 3G card although I liked setting it up manually. Still no 3G signal strength icon. On the whole another effortless upgrade thanks to separate home and / partitions. The one thing I was interested in is the virtualization support but so far found nothing about that. Also the encrypted private folder seems to not have been created. Maybe to do with my old home partition.

Ubuntu rules!

Well , if you could boot 8.10 you could create a usb startup drive from within the administration menu. Pitty that hey.

So far its been smooth sailing for me. How often does it happen? Are you doing anything specific? Running particular programs?

Liet_Kynes --> At first I suspected its only when I watch movies from my External USB Disk....but it did it this morning without the disk plugged in. Might be a hardware issue, but I doubt it as I use dual boot into Windows on this machine to do audio mixing. No problems in Windows....... It could possibly be a driver issue or some application I have installed in on Linux which is giving me grief. This is going to be a hard one to diagnose.
