DAV's REVIEW on Ultra 120a and 3 cooler beast!!

Post by DAV-thermal »

Howzit everyone! I am a big Fan of Thermalright cpu coolers, and I often overclock my computer as a power user, I was surfing on the internet the other day, and I saw this Huge CPU cooler on one of the Japanese webpage, it look amazing! it has 10 thermal pipes, absolutely crazy, it’s made by Scythe – Oriochi, when I look at it I just thought “ I want that as well” I believe anyone that likes modding your Beast CPU at home would agree with me as well, haha, I told my friends about this new beast, and they are all excited about it, after a few discussion with them, we came out a crazy idea, “why don’t we have a cooler contest” XD ,am currently using Thermalright Ultra 120 a on my cpu,it works for me! and I love it, we each donate some money and we got ourselves a Scythe –Oriochi!! , of course , my ultra 120 a when compared to Oriochi, can only be a earthworm compared to oriochi the “cobra” XD,
Hum now we got ourselves the giant oriochi and my ultra 120 a,we still need more competitions in this contest!! So I borrowed some coolers from my friend, and they are made by ASUS – Lion Square and Thermaltake’s Big Typ VP , HAHA, now it’s time for the contest of all time to BEGIN!!!! It’s my little one against the 3 beasts!! XD

This is my baby ~ thermalright Ultra 120 a ,awww isn’t it cute??
Image
WOW the Oriochi is here!! Check the 10 thermal pipes, what a beast!!
ImageImage
Comparing the Oriochi with my thermalright ultra120a ,hum….
ImageImage
And then now comparing the fins that they have ~~ :P
ImageImage
The top view of oriochi and ultra 120a , the oriochi is definitely way bigger! The oriochi is so heavy that I need to support it with the tape as u can see in the pic.
ImageImage
The king of the jungle is here!! ASUS – LionSquare, it has 4 thermal pipes and each measured 0.8cm thick in diameter
ImageImage
Comparing the LION and my Ultra 120a, man…..don’t crush my cute one :?
ImageImage
ARE you going to eat my cute one?? T_T
ImageImage
Thermaltake’s HULK ! the Big Typ VP
ImageImage
The thickness of the fins area about the same compared to my ultra 120a
ImageImage
Group photo before the competition begins haha XD
ImageImage
Base view, my ultra 120a is standingright next to the beast oriochi..HELP!
ImageImage
Comparing the thickness of the thermal pipes
ImageImage
I was just playing pilling them all up~~ call me the cooler artist haha
ImageImage
OK let me explain where the battle will begin! I am using the KUMA Centurion590 case the front and the top of the case are spaces for the installation of 12cm fans
ImageImage
This case has many openings which allows better hear dissipation
ImageImage
To be fair in this competition I have decided to use Zalman’s thermal grease on all coolers.
ImageImage
And then we will have two Fans in support of this competition ,I have chose the Fans from ADDA, AD1212UX-F53-3200RPM±10% with high RPM, and AD1212DX-A76GL-1000RPM the one with lower RPM, during the test all original fans will be taken out,and the smart fan on the motherboard will be switched off, I have a hard time taking the original fans on the ASUS-Lion Square so,I will just let it be, the others will be tested with the High RPM fan and Lower Rpm fan mentioned above during IDLE and FULL LOAD, for the Thermal takes Typ VP,because it’s design,I can only install the fan in different direction, all coolers are warmed up for 10min with the fan installed before the test!
ImageImage
I couldn’t find the fan clips so I just use the flexible wire shown in the pic

The END of TOTAL test result!! My Ultra 120a VS. the other 3 coolers
ImageImage

In this contest I can’t not express how surprised I am to see the result, it seems like my Ultra 120a has got the best result, XD although it don’t have the cool outer appearance like the others XD , I love my ultra120a even more now :D
Let’s start the conclusion with the
Thermaltake’s BigTyp VP
1. When you buy it comes with the Satellite Fan which allows you to change different angles so better choice on the installation of fans.
2. The Fans blows under, which limits heat dissipation.

ASUS-Lion Square
1. Thick thermal pipes, cool outer appearance
2. Original Fan can’t be taken off, can’t not change fans that we desired, therefore heat dissipation is limted

Scythe-ORIOCHI
1. Original fans only runs at 500 rpm, has lower noise level.
2. It’s oversized, not easy for installation and could easily break the motherboard if installed without careful examination .

Conclusion:
Thermal pipes can’t decide how efficient the cooler can be, the thermal fins and fans which used will also need to be considered.

Thank you for watching!!! COMMENTS ARE WELLCOME!! :D

It’s time for Bed
