Shutdown laptop when lid is closed?
hi guys as the title states i am looking for a setting i can change in windows or a program that will automatically shutdown the laptop when the lid is closed. you may be wondering y i want this. well my sister leaves her laptop on all day and night but closes the lid. now the thing goes into standby mode. but still its not good for a laptop to be left on all the time. (NOTE: This is my personal opinion.) So please any help with a setting or proggy that is free would be so helpful. thanks in advance.

I'm pretty sure you can find that in Control Panel under Power Management

Yep. In power management there is a setting that allows you to choose what happens when you close the lid (from nothing to shut down)WiK1d wrote:I'm pretty sure you can find that in Control Panel under Power Management

Well, if the machine goes into hibernation it is fully switched off...Will just resume Windows when switched back on...
More points than you!

Re: Shutdown laptop when lid is closed?
ya. i have set it on that for now. i guess that the only solution in XP. i know vista has shutdown option.
Re: Shutdown laptop when lid is closed?
I wouldn't recommend shutting it down TBH - it will close any running programs etc., which could mean data loss. Hibernation os a better option.
