Shutdown laptop when lid is closed?

Post by DeathStrike »

hi guys as the title states i am looking for a setting i can change in windows or a program that will automatically shutdown the laptop when the lid is closed. :) you may be wondering y i want this. well my sister leaves her laptop on all day and night but closes the lid. now the thing goes into standby mode. but still its not good for a laptop to be left on all the time. (NOTE: This is my personal opinion.) So please any help with a setting or proggy that is free would be so helpful. thanks in advance. :D

I'm pretty sure you can find that in Control Panel under Power Management

Yep. In power management there is a setting that allows you to choose what happens when you close the lid (from nothing to shut down)

Well, if the machine goes into hibernation it is fully switched off...Will just resume Windows when switched back on...

I wouldn't recommend shutting it down TBH - it will close any running programs etc., which could mean data loss. Hibernation os a better option.
