oh yeah, consoles are SO much better

hmmm... seeing as though the hdd is ide, you could obviously replace it with a bigger hdd no doubt?!
i know this would void the warranty, but then why spend SO much more money for a hard drive that sony put in, when you could put your own monster hdd in and have more storage, and it would cost you less?!
whats the failure rate of ps3's like anyway?
i havent heard of any failing yet, so surely my suggestion would be viable, no?!

@ PureFire

You are allowed access to the Hdd bay without voiding the Machine's Warranty... actually Sonys helpdesk staff asked people to remove it and reseat it, when they phoned in with problems!!

not sure about the actual HDD warranty once the unit is removed :? ... but lol. if its a seagate, just take it to them... 5 year warranty beats the standard Sony one

You write an emulator. And since PC's are almost powerful enough to emulate the 300Mhz EE in the PS2 without problems (and the PS3 can't even emulate the PS2 at all without dedicated hardware), I don't think you're going to get very far.

Don't even think of running emulated Vista on a PS3, it's not nearly powerful enough. Emulation requires very fast hardware. The Cell might be a good number cruncher, but it would make a terrible emulator with it's underpowered PPE.
